HIV cure close after disease 'vanishes' from blood of British man
The trial is being undertaken by researchers from the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London and King's College London.

The 44-year-old is one of 50 people currently trialling a treatment which targets the disease even in its dormant state.
Scientists told The Sunday Times that presently the virus is completely undetectable in the man’s blood, although that could be a result of regular drugs.
However if the dormant cells are also cleared out it could represent the first complete cure.
Professor Sarah Fidler:
This therapy is specifically designed to clear the body of all HIV viruses, including dormant ones.
"It has worked in the laboratory and there is good evidence it will work in humans too, but we must stress we are still a long way from any actual therapy.
"We will continue with medical tests for the next five years and at the moment we are not recommending stopping ART but in the future depending on the test results we may explore this."
ART = anti-retroviral therapies

Nice,i hope it works.
I think I somehow grew numb to those kind of news about having a very promising treatment for HIV, cancer or any other currently only controllable disease the same way i treat any "new leak" on HL3 news. they promise alot but suddenly get quiet after a while.

I always get super pessimistic when i hear news like this because my first thought is "they won't make a cure because they will lose money."

So these companies spend millions on research for a cure to not release it?
Sure, i bet they will overcharge a ton, but them hiding it is a bit silly

It looks like this research is not funded by corporate parties. But someone will have to pick up cure production... Meanwhile, the companies manufacturing ARTs will not be pleased by this. There is nothing stopping them from buying the rights and then making it disappear. It's not illegal to do that.
They can raise the price so only the really rich can afford it.
why would they do that
do you have any idea how much money they could extract from insurance companies that cater to the middle classes
the whole "it'll never see the light of day" is really unfounded IMO when it comes to cures like this

"You got NAS"
It's not necessarily wrong for people to be pessimistic About the arrival of any kind of "cure" for HIV or cancer.
A lot of companies would lose money if any sort of cure was produced for one of the main diseases that cause death in the world.
Corporate greed trumps life itself in this world.
Anyone who thinks that these companies that help treat these diseases actually want's to eradicate said diseases would be terribly naive.
It just so happens the most lucrative business in the world revolves around death and life.
Pharmaceuticals, weapons manufactuing/dealing, and Mortuaries.
Because lets face it, everybody's gotta die. The less moral of the world found a way to monetize that.

Sure, lots of companies would lose money, except for the company which markets the cure, which can expect huge profits. Huge profits = huge motivation.
It's naive to think that no one wants to eradicate these diseases when we are actively developing cures for them. Just look at Hepatits C, we now have lots of options to choose from for actually curing it, with Harvoni being just one. The treatments themselves have very high rates of clinical cure rates. The fact that many of these treatments "dissappear" is because you only hear about them in stories like these, where they find the researchers just as they are beginning their several year long clinical trials. Those trials have to run for several years in order to get all the important data they need to determine if this is really a viable treatment option.

Even if it's legit, it takes a long time to actually get to market, during which it'll probably be pretty quiet

If it legit can cure hiv it will be attempted to be pushed asap. This shit would be revolutionary.

Mind you, companies rarely withhold cures for seriously serious diseases. What they they tend to instead do, is bat out their middle and bottom line with small medication to help against persistant issues like high blood pressure etc. All the time trying to make medication for truly serious diseases reachable for the insured.
That said, the US is a slightly different playing field.
Must feel good to be this british man :v:
even if this never materialises as a cure, one man benefited from it which makes it worth it

Developing these things can take decades. Just like HL3.

We dont even know if HL3 is being developed :v:
Watch as it only works on the British.

It takes a long time to develop and test these things, y'know. They cant just start pumping people full of chemicals the moment they find something promising.
