Took him 8 years to make a new game after Braid but I'm super glad to hear Blow's new game lives up to it from all I've heard!
you can beat it in less then 40 hours and while it's pretty the game's puzzles are limited in language, using nothing but rubrics cubes or using one water color to paint can get tedious even with surprises. It is highly Pretentious when it comes to story telling aka narrative to a point where it can be laughable, that said it fits into a tablet game space (coming to ios) for sitting on the bus or toilet then at home. Though there is a moment or two in the game that take over 30 mins to finish (flat out pretentious to boot) so better be a long bus ride.
If you're into a variety of games, the witness doesn't Hold A Candle to the competition of the great games of 2015, but if you're limited to only myst like adventure games and only for it's puzzle and landscape then it satisfies people wanting a challenge then a walking simulator in an as pretty island, worth more then gone home.
If you live past the hype and new shine, while liking a myst like puzzle game with one language of puzzle, the witness is fine, just don't believe it to be a second messiah to people who would lust after gone home.

That is 100% false.
That is 100% false.
nope, saw a speed run last night. Also the whole secret ending plays into one's mind having so much repetition it becomes limited, there's a lot to do with one puzzle type, but it's one puzzle type.
http://www.twitch.tv/azorae/v/38330566
can get an ending (not secret) in less then an hour, 35mins. Time varies in solving puzzles, if you're great at it then it'll be less than 40 hours, if you suck at puzzle games which people now of days do then it might take you 100 for the so called 40 hour route.

Yeah I sort of worded that really badly, I was saying that the puzzle thing is false, the basic mechanic of it is the grid thing but there's some variations of it out there that make it barely even resemble that basic version of it. And what does the speedrun thing even have to do with anything? Yeah, you can solve a puzzle game really fast if you memorize the solutions to all the puzzles, that's kind of true for every puzzle game ever made. Myst can be beaten in less than two minutes.

I hate Gone Home and I love this because this is just a really fucking good puzzle game. It can try to be other things, and it does, but in the end I love this because the puzzles are extremely well thought out and engaging.
I remember Myst being in the news were a kid beat it in less then a month, the time it takes to solve a puzzle games varies and I find 40 hours not to be a good estimate. Now if you like solving rubick cubes again again and again, like a tablet game or even certain arcade games, this game is it, just keep in mind to look around because of the what I'm calling language is all over the place. It's a myst island, when myst games were more then just one island.
Again it's not a walking simulator, to but it in better context what if your puzzle slider box game (forget the name) you can play on your phone was on a myst island. Everywhere you went you slid the block pieces around, there are games like mine sweeper or bubble bobble which are not like that, now if you had the block slinding language down you can have a Chinese puzzle box. Now saying that, the witness is limited in expanding up it where you're limited to a 2D plane when coming to geometry.
This game is by far not a 10 out of 10, some people will love it to be a 9.8 or a 9.5 other will be a 6 or a 5.
Now again with a pro on this, the graphics are nice and I haven't seen a bug yet.

Puzzles that are thought out in it's limited scoop and engagement varies. Now being on a the feeling of hype and talking together with people increases that engagement. I wouldn't put it on the 10 ten of my favorite puzzle games, I would put it in a okay range or moderate enjoyment.
All is said and done for everyone reading and wanting to play this, don't trust this IGN review, keep in mind there are people liking this game and people not liking this game, I'm not in the FUCK MYST group spectrum of things. However it could had won me over but it didn't. There were, "oh that's cute" to laughing like how bro team would laugh at something.

Again, that's wrong. Only like half of the puzzles in the game are only "look at this labyrinth puzzle and solve it. The other half are puzzles that would be impossible to have in a game that's just a 2d phone game.
How do you judge The Witness from a fucking speedrun playthrough?
You're essentially watching a guy go through the game without seeing what the actual puzzles are that he's solving. Of course the game would look simple if you did that.

"I don't like this game and you shouldn't either."
nope, saw a speed run last night.
no shit speedrunners beat games that casually last for tens of hours in under a hour it's the whole point of speedrunning, you don't judge games casual playthroughs from speedruns. A game can be a great for running, but shit when playing casually or vice versa
i beat the game in roughly 6 hours. It's an okay game, but I found the puzzles mostly infuriating to the point where I was just guessing at solutions for 10 minutes before I had to go to reddit to read how the hell some of the puzzles work - I read the advice to go to another zone and see a simpler implementation of a puzzle language I was stuck on, but even those examples were so simple that they had little application to the more complex version on the other side of the island - the puzzles are good, sure, but the game seems like it was designed to beat the player which makes it not fun - I was begrudgingly finishing sections of the game because I had already spent so long on it, not because I genuinely wanted to - I played Myst when I was about 6 and I still remember the puzzles in that game fondly - 6 year old me would have played this and gotten pissed off and never touched it again. I would recommend it only to people who REALLY like puzzle games, and nothing else
[editline]29th January 2016[/editline]
the ending was also the most pretentious thing i've ever seen in my life
I've been playing this and personally I think it's absolutely genius.

nope, maybe to better put it a shell in certain cases but it's mostly flat surface.
Also IOS has been in development.

nope, the speed run is to you the lower end people solve puzzles at different rates but getting through the 40 hours in 35mins (and this is an early speed run), shows that it's not as long as the 40 hour claim. And did I say I judge it through a speed run alone nope, maybe I should make a walkthrough for people on the language I'm saying. (also I didn't know blow said intentionally there's a language being implemented through the puzzle)
"I don't like this game and you shouldn't either."
If you think second messiah equals black and white judgement in such a perspective. Then I can't make people see grey therefore you see black.
If you think second messiah does not equal black and white judgement and rather people saying it's a 100 percent perfect game. Then no, it's not by far perfect nor genius, but it's not a walking simulator.

It's not a casual game, unless you put tetris into a casual game or myst into a casual game. The statement above saying 100% false, gave an easy answer that's 100% factual. The projection is that it's again an overestimate, 40 hours should be 20 or 15 in the good range. Now there's probably a hidden code which is created from the language you pick up.
It's funny, I was going to use polygon expecting a complete kiss ass, but besides some minor over praise, "There has been a lot of hubbub made lately about the cost and length of The Witness. If I were to estimate, I would guess I spent 15-20 hours making my way to something I would consider an ending. There is more to discover in the world, I'm certain of it, but I was pretty happy with what I was able to uncover in my playthrough". And the review was rated 8/10, I would say 6.9 or 7.0 but I do not like ratings.
nope, maybe to better put it a shell in certain cases but it's mostly flat surface.
For the third time, it's not "nope" you're just constantly saying things that are just wrong and refusing to accept any corrections.
Please give an example, I know about aligning things together which still counts as a plane or geometric surface. [sp]like aligning one's perspective to fit topological paths, I haven't seen the cloud being done, however quite a few are flat. I never got onto my boat myself, but I've seen it and wish there was more like that. And I wish there was more like the pillars before the elevator that takes you to one ending. But those are all on a plane, I just was thinking the pillars to have a non euclidean surface, take plane piece of paper and curl it into a tube.[/sp]

The desert temple for one. [sp]You have to look at reflections or find a perspective in which you can see how the sun shines on the planes, that's not something at all you could do with just a basic 2d puzzle game.[/sp]
The witness took 8 years to make!

There's also [sp]sounds from birds[/sp] but you're still reciprocating the same methods that are in your language vocabulary. If it was shorter and less up it's own ass in the story, it would be a better game and I love long 100 hour games and puzzle games.
How do you judge The Witness from a fucking speedrun playthrough?
Ah thought your question just said about only judging from speedruns that was left on in the following sentence.
You look at how parts of the speedrun where played through, certain parts have to deal more then the exact path from memory but how the puzzle is solved and you can read the person in how they recall and piece their memory and though together this can notched off on a puzzle taking time due to the brain juggling things around. Now for a smaller to medium puzzle sometimes people take time discovering the clues but others can take a matter of moments, luck is included, now you can get blind luck with a huge puzzle but the number of steps decreases the amount blind success. Note, you can learn from being lucky but depending on the leap in what the next puzzle makes, this can make a person take a longer time on the next step. Keeping in mind of the small to medium complex puzzles, people can get into the state of flow or something similar where they understand the puzzle and can solve the next similar puzzle, the witness has tons of puzzles with the next tiny step in difficulty in close range, so people can have moments where they easily stride from one puzzle to the next. Those moments of stride can be closer to the path taken in a speedrun. So onto the traveling salesmen, while a speedrun will try to find the shortest path, humans tend to map their surroundings to have an optimal path so while they will look around in various places from a to b the path from a to b will get shorter. While traveling from a to b humans will remember landmarks, and the island has plenty of them and you might forget some, you relativity know where they are and how similar they are to other landmarks or objects. Something that fights against a speedrun in time is taking breaks, your brain will still be processing a puzzle after you quite or put it down, so if you try to play it 40 hours straight vs taking two or so hours per day, you might beat it in less time logged in with the 2 hour per day route. A speedrun I would say is closer to having those 2 hours per day as though they were stacked side by side, now there is the factor of time and time again which the person I liked's second speedrun was 25mins, but I find first attempts at new games for speedruns more overall closer to getting an average joe's stride down then hearing about a trick that was hard to do by 0.1% who discovered it.
This was one train of though so I'm sorry if this doesn't make grammatical sense, there's also more I could add but I gave examples in how it could benefit in judging. Now to get a better assessment, watch other people play normaly without hints or tips, I was watching one person's playthrough and he was swearing at the chat in trying to [sp]get the tiles in the treehouse section to the timed door. He didn't know about moving the tiles where you could move left or right then just up[/sp], it was great. However, not everyone will have a brain fart like that.
