Having dug right through the prison wall with a butter knife0, Fred Binaku ( 29) climbed over the fence. Now the man , who is charged in a major drug case , vanished without a trace .
With a butter knife in hand the 29- year-old, who is designated as the leader of a major drug case, dug through half a meter of brick stone and plaster in Hamar prison.
- Everything is possible
Images from surveillance cameras in the prison shows that the man crawled through the hole and into the yard at 5:50 Monday. After climbing over the fence the Albanian citizen disappeared.
- Prisoners should not be able to escape from a high security prison , so this is not good , said prison manager, Jan Korsvold to VG .
- This is a special case, but if you have a tool that you can poke the wall with, in theory anything is possible , he says.
The 29- year-old was detained last December, after he and many Albanians were taken with almost ten kilos of heroin together. As VG is aware, the 29 -year-old was appointed as the leader of a major smuggling league by several of the other accused in the case.
- Have expressed frustration
The maximum penalty is ten years imprisonment .
- He has always denied guilt . I had no idea that he planned to escape, but he had expressed frustration that the investigation had taken a very long time , says defender Øystein Storrvik to VG .
He said he last met the 29- year-old in prison Monday two weeks ago.
- I have obviously no idea about where he is now, says Storrvik .
Wanted by police
29- year-old is now wanted both nationally and internationally , but is not considered dangerous by police.
The prisoners digging project was discovered when one of the prison officers arrived at work an hour after the 29 -year-old was gone . In the cell they found the digging equipment.
Because the prisoners eats all their meals in their prison cells , he was allowed to keep the butter knife, according to Korsvold .
- There is much in Norwegian prisons one can in theory use to escape , but the question is how paranoid we should be.
- We will consider the routines of the prison , said prison manager, who stressed that there has been no failure by the employees who were at work .
Time consuming project
It is not known how long he used to dig out, but he has probably kept at it for some time , according to Hamar Arbeiderblad , who first publicized the case.
- We have our control routines, so the digging might not have lasted too long . He probably did most during the night , but he may also have used the previous days , said Korsvold .
It is just over five years ago something similar happened in the same prison.
Monday night 12 August 2008 a prisoner dug out through the wall with a clothes hanger . Then he used a sheet to climb down
Ran the article through google translate, and tried to make it somewhat more legible.

Shawshank Redemption, as OPs image is from.
Great film.
They should have sprung for perimeter walls and metal detectors.
I like the quote they have from who I assume is the warden or equivalent:
- Prisoners should not be able to escape from a high security prison , so this is not good , said prison manager, Jan Korsvold to VG .
"Not escapable by the prisoners" is basically rule one of a high security prison, isn't it?

That should be a top priority of any prison.
They sound like theyre taking it rather well.
I wish our prisons didn't suck so hard. Criminals are still human too
Its actually amazing what some patience and a little ingenuity will do for you.
Hmmm. I wonder how effective a prison would be if they adopted a system where if you're caught trying to escape, you'll get some sort of bonus point if the method hasn't been done before.

"Congrats we caught you it's chicken fingers for dinner!"
Anyone else think this is just a bit more extraordinary?

That's an understatement, it's quite possibly the greatest film ever created.
It has a 93% score from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes, a 98% audience score and it's the highest rated, and most voted film on IMDB.
A hell of a lot of people liked it.

Only two movies to ever make me cry were Shawshank Redemption and Marley & Me.
Hahaha

I thought it was "Don't drop the soap"
Fucking GG, I live in this city and this guy can be anywhere right now. This "high" security prison is in the middle of a city. There's no perimeter around the prison, you can walk right across the street and take the fucking bus. Or walk 1km to the train/bus station to disappear.

The Shawshank Redemption is one of the greatest movies ever made...and then they put Morgan Freeman in it making it even more awesome. Clever move.
lol this has turned into a shawshank redemption thread instead of worrying about how a prisoner tunneled out of his cell...also who puts a prison in the middle of a city.....
also who puts a prison in the middle of a city.....
Evidently the Norwegians :v:

I know it's early but don't they have people watch the cams?
Apparently they build their brick walls out of shit, or otherwise, have reinforced steel knifes. When have they learned to use sporks?

Clothes-hanger is sort of unique. Bummer, he didn't get caught.

I don't think they expect this to happen.
