Portal are an independent "progressive rock" band from Canada. Although they only really use progressive elements. Their music is more firmly grounded in basic rock roots. Portal’s music has been likened to the rhythmic complexity of Tool’s, dubbed a more hopeful version of Nine Inch Nails, and been compared to that of artists such as Porcupine Tree, A Perfect Circle, and VAST. The A Perfect Circle comparison is certainly valid. They are quite similar in sound. But they add their own twist to the style.
So far they have released three albums. But their latest one, Blood Red Tape, is what has really made them into a great band. It's elevated them into their own sort of style and driving force.
