They wanted to blackmail the Swedish furniture giant for some 6 million euros. Small explosions took place at IKEA stores in Belgium (Ghent, photo), France, the Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic between May and September. A total of 8 incidents were reported, although in some cases the explosion failed. Nobody got injured, but the small explosions caused the evacuation of the stores and harmed the image of IKEA. Earlier, police detained two men in the north-western part of Poland. Both men are 39 years old and stand accused of placing the bombs in the stores. The judicial authorities in Dresden (Germany) have announced that the case has been solved. The two confessed their actions and explained that they financial motives. It was their intention to blackmail the Swedish furniture giant IKEA.[/release] Why would anyone even do that? what a waste of bomb
Jesus that is brilliant, that place is a goddamn shopping mall in itself. They'd never find it.
what a waste of bomb
It's okay, they got it cheap because it was a DIY [editline]18th November 2011[/editline]
Why would anyone even do that?
I have six million reasons.
6 million euros.

what a waste of bomb
They should have protected the bomb.
"WE WANT 4 PREBUILT TABLES, THE INSTRUCTIONS DIDN'T HELP US."
"We demand six billion euros." "We can send those but..." "But WHAT?" "You'll have to assemble it yourself. You'll receive a sheet of fiber, a printing machine, and thirty gallons of ink within the week."
No one fucks with IKEA.
I don't think the bombs would have caused too much damage; there's no way an explosion could make that furniture any harder to assemble
wow I have enough trouble finding my way out of Ikea as is, imagine trying to get out with a bomb in there that's about to explode
"WE WANT 4 PREBUILT TABLES, THE INSTRUCTIONS DIDN'T HELP US."
there was a missing screw there's always a missing screw!
Like anything of value would have been lost if the bombs went off. It's all plywood.
I wonder if they were working alone or had help in each country because that's a large area to place bombs in for two people. [editline]18th November 2011[/editline]
there was a missing screw there's always a missing screw!
I am sure they do this to draw you back in and buy more stuff. The nearest Ikea to me sells food next to the "there is a bit missing" section, and you can smell it from there. I am convinced its all a trap to make you buy their food.
Why would anyone plant a bomb in IKEA? It's the best furniture store ever!
Why would anyone plant a bomb in IKEA? It's the best furniture store ever!
Well to blackmail them for instance.
The bomb squad would have an easier job disassembling the bomb over assembling any IKEA furniture
I don't think the bombs would have caused too much damage; there's no way an explosion could make that furniture any harder to assemble
if anything the prebuilt displays would have to be reassembled the worst kind of terrorism
Why would you do that, IKEA is awesome :c
I love Ikea, my gallant is sex.
Why do people always say it's hard to assemble ikea shit, it's easy.
The bombs were on the parking lots in trash cans afaik.
Why do people always say it's hard to assemble ikea shit, it's easy.
i have a flat pack desk from some random company that isn't ikea and it was awful to set up IKEA stuff seems like it's the least of the hassle but when you have to build your own furniture it's never gonna be easy
Building it from scratch is easy even. If you think putting together a prebuilt is hard, you're not trying.
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5483751/Photos/20111118_172115.jpg[/thumb] What do you mean, hard?
Building it from scratch is easy even. If you think putting together a prebuilt is hard, you're not trying.
yeah I built myself a storage thing out of some leftover plywood took maybe one day? lengthy work but if you know how to cut and combine two pieces of wood at a joint then flatpack furniture is piss easy in comparison - awful if you skip a step though
yeah I built myself a storage thing out of some leftover plywood took maybe one day? lengthy work but if you know how to cut and combine two pieces of wood at a joint then flatpack furniture is piss easy in comparison - awful if you skip a step though
Well if you skip a step it's your own fault, not ikeas :v: And I don't get why people say they always miss a screw or something, I always end up with some left over, I guess I get all the ones you are missing :v:
Ikea would make a great Battlefield 3 map. Just sayin'.
Ikea would make a great Battlefield 3 map. Just sayin'.
assemble the guns yourself
assemble the guns yourself
i just imagined a group of soldiers charging a capture point, but the capture point is gun parts and if you capture enough you can build guns
