Police claimed they had “authorization from the president of McDonald’s” to arrest protesting fast food workers, according to a civil rights lawsuit filed on Wednesday against the city of Memphis, Tennessee. The suit alleges that local police engaged in a “widespread and illegal campaign of surveillance and intimidation” against a local chapter of the Fight for $15 fast-food worker organization as it campaigned for an increase in the minimum wage and union rights for fast food workers. Officers followed organizers home after meetings, ordered workers not to sign petitions and blacklisted organizers from city hall, according to the suit. They claimed to have been authorized by McDonald’s, the world’s largest fast food chain, and in one incident a McDonald’s franchisee joined police in tailing protesters.
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/mar/01/mcdonalds-fight-for-15-memphis-police-lawsuit
So when the drek is McDonalds going to start selling Soykaf to chummers like myself?
the way this is worded is just so funny to me Hierarchy of united states police Officer < Detective < Commissioner < Colonel < McDonalds President
Ronald, how could you turn on your own children like that? We thought you were the good kind of clown, instead you were just an insidious form of evil.
Wait, were these protesters breaking the law in any way? Because if not, everyone responsible for this ought to be fired. Or at least sued.
Like something out of Grapes of Wrath
This is the most American thing I've seen all week.
why have a corporate police force when you can have a regular police force
Banksy was right

truly the cyberpunk future we deserved, although probably didn't want
I welcome my new corporate overlords. After the great succes of the McPolice the newest trend will be the McRoad. Its like a toll road, except the toll boots are replaced by McDrive's.

The McDonalds secret police are real :worried:
this reads like something from one of those ancap meme pages
lol like a scene out of the 2006 movie Idiocracy
Is there another source reporting on this?
Just rename America 'McDonald's' and have done with it.
McDonalds is a franchise with private owners, there can be three people in one area with 2 McDonalds to each of themselves. If they can't afford to pay their fast food workers more what do they expect? This is the exact case in my economics class, a girl who works at one in the area says the owner has iirc 2 or 3 locations but he only makes ends meet and there was even one time he couldn't afford to pay anyone because he was actually losing money. If demand for fast food picked up then wages would go up for the increased need of workers. Fast food, especially the franchise that is the symbol of it, is on its way out.
So when the drek is McDonalds going to start selling Soykaf to chummers like myself?
all depends, you got the nuyen?
They claimed to have been authorized by McDonald’s, the world’s largest fast food chain, and in one incident a McDonald’s franchisee joined police in tailing protesters.

McDonald’s was not immediately available for comment. The Memphis mayor’s office declined to comment on “pending litigation”.
I wouldn't be surprised if the franchisee had everything to do with this, and corporate had no role. I really doubt the president of Mcdonalds would have that much of an invested interest in one city.

Something about this article seems like bullshit, police can't "order" people to not sign a petition.
Something about this article seems like bullshit, police can't "order" people to not sign a petition.
In court it wouldn't hold up; but on the streets, they have all the authority. Either you comply, or get charged for non-compliance and possibly receive an extra beat down with "resisting arrest" thrown in for good measure.
Fast food, especially the franchise that is the symbol of it, is on its way out.
As long as there are alcoholics and people in a rush, fast food will never go away. I think people just over-saturate their local markets TBH. We're a town of ~50K people, and we have three McDonald's. Three! That's on top of the myriad other food places we have here, including (but not limited to) Chili's, Applebee's, Taco Villa, Taco Bell, Burger King, Arby's, Taqueria Jalisco, Leal's (x2), Pizza Hut/Wing Street (x2), Wendy's, Long John Silver's/A&W, Dakota Steakhouse, etc., on top of all the Mom and Pop places and roach coach's that are scattered everywhere.
