The story of "What the fuck happened to my Flashdrive"

Oh, galore. It's Monday. The day before Tuesday. And on Tuesdays I have Geography. And I have an assignment - to make a presentation about Sweden. It's all ok, I say to myself. I open up OpenOffice.org and start making the thing. I saved it directly to my flashdrive on which I had a few songs, some savegames and some apps. And all of the sudden, while saving - OO.O gives me an error. It says that there isn't enough room on the selected drive. I was baffled by this, because I had more than 3 GBs of space on the drive. A mere presentation couldn't be more than that.
But... Oh boy, was I wrong... I went in My Computer and instead of the ordinary name "Removable drive", I get greeted by some alien symbols, mixed up with some Latin and Cyrillic letters. This:

I'm sure it contains secrets about the birth of the Universe, but still. I open up the Flashdrive and before my eyes, instead of the 5-6 files and folders I expected, I saw horror. Files and folders with the same encrypted and coded names:

Now notice the sizes of the files. The files couldn't even be opened with Notepad, or anything for that matter. The only thing I could make sense of was the semi-copied presentation lying at the bottom of the pile of nonsense.
So, I did the logical thing. I formatted the drive. And what do you know... Error. "Windows could not format the... Whatever". When I tried to access the drive, it said that it needed to reformat it. So, I let it. And it formatted successfully. I thought the troubles were over, but then I noticed the free space on the flashdrive, after the format, while the drive was empty:

So I tried to format again and again with the same story repeating. Error, reformat, some taken space. Error, refor- etc. etc.
Should I call the damned exorcist?!
Aliens fucking with you man, watch the skies
You accidentally exchanged your flashdrive for an identical flashdrive belonging to a time-traveler.
Look at those file dates.

HOLY SHIT, I didn't see that... Fuck... The plot is thickening...
Looks like your Flash Drive is broken. What happened to it prior to this event? Did you drop it? It looks like it has been destroyed and the only thing you can do now is to buy a new Flash Drive.

Oh, you think.
This happened to me before giving in my GCSE English coursework a few years ago.
Only, it happened whilst I was trying to print it off in school.
The teacher didn't believe me. She thought I set the entire thing up. ._.
I had to stay behind and do it in School during my freetime.

And you didn't show her the flashdrive because...?
Even if you didn't had it with you, you could rub it in her face the next day when you do have it and demand redemption in the form of 5 weeks off, or charge her with harassement.
start-->run-->CMD--> chkdsk /r I:
You probably have bad blocks or something like that, chkdsk will tell you where they are
Or you could go with aliens I guess

Well, I tried. And it says: "Cannot open volume for direct access."
And before you ask - The drive is in the PC and it is detected.
I think I'll have to stick with the alien thing D:
I think he broke more than just the flash drive. I mean, look at those damn file dates!
But anyway, it's most likely a malware that's been implanted in your drive by aliens.
This happened to me too, and for some odd reason, the folders were different in windows and linux. I just formatted it and it was fine.
you, hold the key in which we can kill all aliens with /sci-fi
anyway, shit man im sorry for you, but thats the strangest thing ive seen happen

You need a new Flashdrive. Might I suggest ?

Harder for the aliens
Harder for the aliens
Aliens can't be stopped by the pansy 256 bit encryption of ours :q:
Joke aside - I got the flash on my laptop, did a slow format (Takes 15 minutes, damn it) and it's working now. I'll isolate it in tinfoil now.
The drive is pretty much toast. The reason that the free space changes was because during the format, windows marked all the bad sectors on the flash chip as unusable. Try wiping the drive with Eraser, then formatting it. It that doesn't work, shitcan it.
edit:
Or not...

Wait a minute how are the dates on the drive things like 2096? I thought that you couldn't get dates that are higher than 2038 on a 32-bit computer. Are you running 64-bit?
Hello science-fiction plotline, how are you today?
