Damn DICE certainly knows how to make beautiful games.

I've always thought Naboo was an interesting concept. It combines late-career Frank Lloyd Wright with traditional Italian Classicism. Those two styles are not very close at all, but it works. And this game does a beautiful job of portraying it.
It's really weird to see sidewalk cafes and trees strung with tiny lights in the Star Wars universe, isn't it? The universe has to have these things, but it's just so far outside my idea of Star Wars that it's catching me off guard.
Please let Jar Jar be a playable character, oh god yes.
Damn that is pretty, Visually and to my ears.
That's the one thing I really like the prequels for. The planets and locations they introduced really felt like another universe rather than the "not earth" locations seen in the newer star wars movies.

but Naboo is based on Italy. Heck, some of the Palace scenes were filmed in italy.
you can't deny that visually the game is ridiculously gorgeous

True, but Naboo feels infinitely more alien than generic forest/snow/desert planet #4. The prequels may have sucked movie-wise but they did A LOT to expand the universe.

I mean, the Original Trilogy primarily depicted military installations and scarcely-inhabited planets in the middle of a massive civil war, whereas the prequels had a lot of peacetime discussion and also featured urban warfare between two enormous, competing military powers. There's a fair bit of distinction to be made there.

True, but as we go on with the new films, it'd be fun if they could write in a visit by the characters to the more populated, diverse worlds. I get concerned that the new filmmakers want to stick to the OT's "used universe" theme too much to the point of never seeing something more varied on the level of the prequel planets. Some nice new alien worlds would be nice, and I'm sure today's effects and sets can pull it off in a way that isn't as off-putting as the CG/HD revolutions Lucasfilm and ILM tried in the past.

Sure, but even in the OT the locales were at least a good bit interesting.
Tatooine had lots of interesting buildings and styles going on in mos eisley, and the Death Star felt very unique. Even episode 5, which had the "cold planet" made it pretty interesting with the rebel base. I'm sure you could recognize star war's rebel base from nearly anything else. Dagobah was a swamp, but the thick fog and foliage made it feel more foreign than just a general swamp. Not to mention bespin which looked flat out beautiful.
To say the original trilogy didn't have memorable locations would be a flat out lie as they each had something familiar yet foreign in all of them which distinguished them from a generic planet.

To capitalize on the previous point, it does look like italy, but they added some distinctive roofs and other such styling to really separate it from italy. (The foreign element aspect)

It basically just stole the roof design from the Marin County Civic Center and copypasted it everywhere.
Which I'm totally okay with.
Christ, the sounds of a lightsaber echoing through the building.
It looks great, but while watching this I couldn't help but think of how I'd prefer this battle to be the Naboo Boys vs droids instead of anachronistic clones. Hopefully there is a battle available with the Naboo guards and their vehicles. Wouldn't mind picking through the streets in one of these.

I got the opposite impression honestly. It's rendered beautifully but Naboo is a straight Mediterranean/Italian renaissance city with barely any changes. If you remove the vehicles from this video it could be Assassin's Creed imo. I guess the movie had some cool landscapes, but you can see things like the canals with gondola boats they lifted straight from Venice. It feels the most like Earth, especially next to Coruscant/Bespin/etc that're really original. I hope we get maps for those again.
If you want to talk about prequels locales being alien-looking I think it would be more relevant to talk about Otoh Gunga or Kamino.

yeah it's bizarre that wave 2 clones are defending the palace... i don't recall if naboo palace was ever raided by CIS and defended by clones in canon. Maybe it has. There's so much shit in the starwars universe now.

Jar Jar would be OP. All he has to do is trip over stuff to win, or touch someone with his long slimy tongue and make them immediately commit suicide.
The game looks better than CGI in the movie.

The only time we got the whole Naboo Guards vs. Droids was in the first Star Wars Battlefront in Campaign mode. And we played as Droids.
They even had that vehicle usable only to never be used in normal gameplay.

No there is no Theed invasion with clones in the new canon. This is something the game is doing for fun.
It is a sandbox/toy box video game. It doesn't follow canon 100%
The last game had full on battles on Tatooine and in Jabba's palace.
You could have Palpatine fighting on Hoth. Or Boba Fett on Jakku after he was suppose to be dead.
Also Lol at the "too much shit". Did you see the old EU? That was too much bloat. The new canon is nowhere near that.

I'm not concerned about the canon-ness of the battle being shown, I just like to participate in the movie battles so I hope that's an option on Theed. :v:

Seems unlikely to me.
