Barry Snowdon is actually a hero, he fights crime whilst on his day rounds cleaning the street. He put out a fire stopping a petrol truck exploding, burning his arms in the process, chased down a thief who had stolen someone's hand bag, and stopped a thief who stole a set of car keys:
Warsop street cleaner hailed a hero Helen Lambourne "I could see the lorry was in danger of exploding and just did what anyone would have done " Barry Snowdon A STREET cleaner is being hailed a hero for the second time in 18 months after averting a major disaster while on his rounds in Warsop. Barry Snowdon rushed to the rescue after seeing a truck on fire just yards from a BP petrol station on Sherwood Street on 16th July. Quick-thinking Barry (40) leapt into action to prevent the vehicle exploding after realising it was carrying high-pressure gas bottles and other flammable items – by using a fire extinguisher from the petrol station to put out the blaze single-handedly. Barry told Chad: "I could see the lorry was in danger of exploding and just did what anyone would have done — my instincts were just to get the fire out as quickly as possible. "I'm not a super hero, just a road sweeper who takes pride in keeping Warsop clean for the residents who have made me very welcome over the last four years." It is the second time the Mansfield District Council worker has proved himself a hero after chasing and catching a handbag thief last March. The thief was later sentenced to three months in prison while the handbag was returned to its grateful owner. Barry was awarded a commendation by Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton for his bravery on that occasion. "The fact that Barry is keeping the streets clean in more ways than one is fantastic," Mr Egginton told Chad this week. "Both incidents show that Barry is extremely brave and always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. "But super heroics aside, Barry is extremely popular and well thought of on his patch in Warsop and we regularly get positive comments from businesses and residents about his dedication to the job and his diligent attitude."
And now he's won National Council Worker of the Year award after being backed by Noel Edmonds.
Superhero Barry WINS national council award Helen Lambourne MANSFIELD'S superhero street cleaner Barry Snowdon has scooped the Council Worker of the Year award. He was nominated in the bravery category after a number of heroic acts and found out he had won at a prestigious ceremony at the Local Government Association conference in Harrogate on Thursday night. The Warsop street cleaner, who works for Mansfield District Council, first came to the rescue in March 2007 when he helped local chiropodist, Maxine Kimberley, whose bag had been stolen. Barry chased the thief down and held him until the police arrived, returning the stolen handbag in the process. Then last summer, he leapt into action and prevented a major disaster when he saw a truck carrying high-pressure gas bottles on fire just yards from the BP petrol station on Sherwood Street. Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton said: "We are all, rightly, proud of Barry and of the amazing acts of bravery he has carried out and of his hard work and dedication to duty." Earlier this year, Barry also helped Warsop man John Frichley by finding his stolen car keys. He had received the backing of Warsop MP John Mann and Tv presenter Noel Edmonds after he was honoured on his Sky One show Noel's HQ.
So my town apparently has a super hero, I for one feel a lot safer to be honest. It's a bit ironic how your post is about a vigilante when your avatar is someone who commits crime.

Vigilantism involves capturing a suspected criminal and possibly punishing them. A citizen's arrest, on the other hand, involves arresting a person who you directly witness committing a crime, and immediately handing that person over to the police without assaulting them unreasonably.
