Ian Bayne, GOP Congressional Candidate: 'Duck Dynasty Star Is Rosa Parks Of Our Generation'
66 replies, posted
WASHINGTON -- Embattled "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson has been suspended from his show by A&E for his remarks about gays and African-Americans, and now some high-profile conservatives are rallying to his side and defending him. On Friday, GOP congressional candidate Ian Bayne went all in, comparing Robertson to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
"In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians," Bayne said in an email to supporters.
Oh boy
wait what
how does "man those fags and niggers are sinners" make you rosa parks
Last night my dad ran into my room and asked me if i thought it was okay that we were violating his 1st amendment rights, and we had a long and lengthy debate over it, and he was yelling and i just remained calm, all because i defended A &E suspending him.
I wonder if Ian Bayne thinks whites, men and straight people are being discriminated against, too.

A GOP congressman said this.

Republicans think equality is oppression for them.
Republicans thing equality is oppression for them.
Freedom for a Republican means the freedom to subjugate and oppress others.
To be completely fair he was answering a question asked by an interviewer. I don't think he should be suspended for that - those are his views. They're wrong, yes, but he didn't just jump on a rock and announce that all fags and niggers are sinners who should burn in Hell.
The people pictured in the show all have a live and let live attitude - they don't agree with it and in their worldview these people are sinners - but they don't actively try to ruin their lives, nor do they support legislation that would.

well it could lose viewers so either way they were damned.
"Black people were happier before that whole 'having civil rights' business."
"Ladies and gentlemen, this man is the new Rosa Parks!"
Republican logic never ceases to astound me.

Quotation marks have lost their meaning.

This is a tad better but still false.

Republicans say the dumbest shit who honestly thought that through and said to themselves that it was an okay thing to say.
First of all, a lot of you need to http://www.gq.com/entertainment/television/201401/duck-dynasty-phil-robertson?currentPage=1]read the actual article from GQ before trying to talk about what Phil said. It's nowhere near as bad as people are making it sound. It's not even surprising that an old southern white man would hold these views.
Second, this is utterly retarded. He is not a damn champion of the first amendment. He is an old man who lives his life by what his religion says. That's not an uncommon thing. What's uncommon is that he isn't a hypocrite like most christians. He actually tries to live by the bible apparently...
Bottom line, activist groups took it and blew it out of proportion and took a few lines from a 3 page article out of context and went on a tirade. A&E responded by suspending him, probably to calm the activists while trying to get to the bottom of it.
well it could lose viewers so either way they were damned.
They are going to lose MORE viewers now. You would think the whole Chick Fil-A thing would have opened people's eyes about this sort of thing. All of those "religious" beliefs they had earned them record sales and profits while a "boycott" was going on. Not to mention a few advertisers like underarmour are sticking with the family. So if A&E doesn't bring him back, they are going to lose a fuckton of viewers, their #1 show (because the family won't do it without him), AND advertisers. Looks like this was a bad decision on A&E's part.....
And yes, these politicians are so stupid. Democrat, Republican, it's all the same song and dance, just different sides of the dance floor.
Oh my god just suck some cock already and stop being in denial.
Reading these quotes for myself it's even more ridiculous that this has sparked so much shit.
“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
Finally,
“We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus—whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”
These people are retarded anyway.
No-one takes them seriously, except for the bigots and idiots ofcourse.
But their opinions are worthless.

They're well meaning people and they don't wish ill on anyone. I don't particularly like the show but I come from west Texas where there are many people similar to them.

You could have just told him that the first amendment protects you from the government infringing on your right to free speech, it doesn't make you immune to consequences from your employer

you know what happened in the jim crow era, right? black men and women were lynched openly and regularly. it was a family event to go out and see someone get lynched. little kids were tortured and murdered for supposedly whistling at white women (emmett till) and their murderers were found innocent. not to mention all the segregation and institutional racism. and phil robertson apparently whole-heartedly believes they were better off back then.

He was speaking solely within the context of his small town in northern Louisiana.
Still not seen anyone in these threads explain for the non-Americans what the fuck Duck Dynasty is

You can't be fucking serious.
They have those opinions and you call them "well meaning people who wish no ill on anyone"
AHAHAHAHAHA
Fucking bigots.
Still not seen anyone in these threads explain for the non-Americans what the fuck Duck Dynasty is
It's a TV show about rednecks who got rich and don't know what to do with their money. Americans, particularly in the South, like the show because they can connect with them in many ways.
Republicans think equality is oppression for them.
oh... I didn't realize I thought that way
Really dumb he was suspended, it's his opinion, and someone asked for it. Should he have just lied?
He was speaking solely within the context of his small town in southern Louisiana.
it's still an unconscionable level of ignorance from anyone.
You can't be fucking serious.

The man was raised like this, he doesn't believe homosexuality is right but he doesn't believe it's his place to force it on them or judge them for it and wants them to be as happy as they can be. What's the fucking problem?
oh... I didn't realize I thought that way

if someone asked my opinion at wal-mart and i gave them a terribly bigoted answer, i would be fired. this is no different. he represents the company he works for.

How is he wishing ill on anyone?
The Bible says everyone is a sinner regardless of what your sexual preference is.

i don't think i want his idea of "happy as can be" considering he thinks segregation and racial terrorism is happiness...
i don't think i want his idea of "happy as can be" considering he thinks segregation and racial terrorism is happiness...
He doesn't. Those few out of context lines were spoken when describing his past and his life, not his opinions on civil rights. Either read the article or stop trying to argue a nonexistant point. You're starting to look like you regurgitate what other people say instead of forming your own opinions.
i don't think i want his idea of "happy as can be" considering he thinks segregation and racial terrorism is happiness...
rofl all he said was that where he was he never saw black people being mistreated or unhappy, that's hardly saying "Man fuck those niggers send em' back to the cotton fields"
