Remember the writer of 'Kindness in America' who got shot? Yeah, he shot himself and lied for PR
A West Virginia hitchhiker working on a memoir called “Kindness in America” shot himself in the arm and made up a story about a drive-by shooting for publicity, police say.
Ray Dolin, 39, made headlines last week when he said a random driver shot him while he was hitchhiking in rural Montana working on his book about kindness.
He claimed the driver of a maroon pickup pulled up and shot him in the upper arm for no apparent reason. Cops later arrested Lloyd Christopher Danielson III, 52, and charged him with felony assault.
That charge was dropped after Dolin, recovering in a hospital in Miles City, Mont., admitted to police he’d shot himself and made up the whole story for publicity, the Valley County Sheriff’s Department told the Missoulian.
Sheriff Glen Meier told the newspaper the case smelled fishy from the moment he arrested Danielson.
“I had the worst feeling he was telling me the absolute truth,” Meier said. “I kept telling him that we are seekers of the truth and we are going to work very hard to find out the truth of this incident.
“It was a great moment when I sent someone up to the jail to tell him he had nothing to do with it.”
Dolin hasn’t been charged, but police say they’ve recovered the gun he allegedly used in the PR stunt.
Wow. So much for his credibility.
If you're going to make up a bullshit story for PR, don't fucking do it at the expense of someone else like that. I can't imagine what the guy must have felt, being charged with a felony when he had no idea what was going on.
Kindness in America my ass.
"Lying in America. The official sequel to Kindness in America"

First I've heard of it

Jesus is crying for your infidel soul. Guns in America! Guns make people more kind. It says so in the bible!
oh the delicious irony
He already admitted that he shot himself in the original article?

This was already stated in a previous thread. This should be locked, sorry.

I don't know that he meant for the man to be charged. It doesn't really say so.
If not, I can sympathize somewhat with the man. Sometimes great works of art are defined by behind-the-scenes stories and such that happened to the artist - Pink Floyd's albums are defined by the madness of former member Syd Barrett, and later, Roger Waters' disconnection with society. The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds", their most legendary album, was the product of their frontman's desperate attempts to compete with The Beatles, which involved use of LSD and eventually left him with a crippling nervous breakdown. To fabricate a story with the intention of creating a legendary work seems like it can be an honorable cause.
People that lie in this way disgust me. Especially the recent Americas Got Talent contestant lying about his military service and why he stutters (Which I doubt is even a real stutter)
How did the police actually arrest anyone based on that bullshit story?
He'll surely be arrested for wasting police time?
This is like Captain Paul Watson all over again.
He was so kind to his arm.

more like fraud/obstruction of justice.
What pisses me off about this story is how the police actually arrested some random guy. "Hey, you, you're arrested 'cause we don't like your ass." Speaks wonders about our justice system.
