Le Pen and Macron Clash in Vicious Presidential Debate in France
The debate on Wednesday night between France’s two presidential candidates, Marine Le Pen of the far-right National Front and the centrist former economy minister Emmanuel Macron, was more like an angry American-style television shoutfest than the reasoned discussion of issues the French have become accustomed to. It was a study in violent verbal combat: The two talked angrily over each other, cut each other off, shook fists and pointed fingers, leaving the moderators bewildered and helpless.
But it was also a stark demonstration of two radically different visions of France that voters will have to choose between on Sunday in the election’s final round. Mr. Macron, 39, the former banker and cool technocrat, educated at France’s finest schools and the beneficiary of a meteoric rise, faced off against Ms. Le Pen, 48, the scion of one of the country’s most notorious political families, the inheritor of a far-right party who has tried to move it toward the center.

[Macron] leads her by 20 points in polls and is considered likely to win on Sunday. The debate is expected to move some voters, but not enough to make up for Ms. Le Pen’s substantial polling deficit. She has seen some slight improvement in recent polls and was clearly hoping to destabilize her younger opponent as she did in the first-round debates, when other candidates were present. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, she went for direct frontal attacks.

Mr. Macron offered his view of a France open to Europe and free trade, staying in the common currency, reinforcing its ties with European nations, dealing firmly with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, and overhauling its stultifying and voluminous labor code in order, he said, to generate more jobs.

Ms. Le Pen depicted a France with a “total collapse of our industries,” preyed upon by Islamist extremists, demanding ever more government protection from economic vicissitudes and urgently needing to close its borders. “I’m the candidate of that France that we love, who will protect our frontiers, who will protect us from savage globalization,” she said at the outset.
MLP was a fucking disgrace. She didn't want to talk about policy because she has nothing substantial on that front. She kept ignoring the journalists' questions and went for bullshit attacks on her opponent instead. Kudos to Macron for keeping his cool when faced with such tripe.

Sounds like Trump tactics, and sadly it works.

According to reactions on social media, it wasn't so successful. Macron managed to point out the hollowness of her policies while refuting her attacks. MLP just came off as a loon, especially considering how rational those second turn debates usually are.
As far as we don't have any Poutou/Arthaud/Merluchon, i'm fine

Couldn't Resist
This wasn't politics, this was a disgrace. It was as if I was looking at 2 children fighting over the last cookie or something. Macron felt more mature tho, but it's not that hard against a Trump-tier MLP fake-newsing the debate.
Also, nothing about the environment.
That's all I got from this debate.

Can someone give a translation of what she's saying?
Can someone give a translation of what she's saying?
MLP: "They're there. They're in the country, in the cities, on social media..."
Don't know the context, so I don't know who "they" are in this sentence.

EM: "You wanna buy deathhhh sticksss?"
MLP: "You don't want to sell me death sticks, you want to go home and rethink your life"

Probably referring to globalist reptilians.
Welp, im glad i didn't waste my time watching this.
I totally dissaprove Macron's program but he did fine. I guess it's not that hard against MLP.

We just witnessed a real meme magic ritual.

Careful it might turn out true and she wins

Witch Le Pen attempts to destroy Macron with her magic, however, he deflects it using the okay sign .
Also if you want to know what Le pen was doing, she was making a reference to a TV show of a dude revealing humans to be aliens and then killing them or something. Le Pen is trying to suggest that macron thinks her supporters are aliens. So she says "Look, they are here, they are in the countryside, in the towns! they're on the social networks!"
Oh, polls suggest she lost the debate. One thing I was worried about was that I heard that Macron wasn't a great debater, so that's nice.

Idiots then proceeded to say Macron used The "White Power" sign because some idiots on the left think A-okay looks to much like a WP.
What?

But... the OK sign thingy is alt-right meme propaganda... why are you even talking about the left

What?
That was a /pol/ fabrication, made some spoof ACLU poster about fictitious hate signs.

I have no idea. If you think that's crazy...

The video happened in 2012.

I've always had an interest in politics but it's crazy how polarized it's turned into.
Years ago both parties had some form of agreement, but now it's either or. The candidates have become caricatures. It's sad.
