Chilling audio account of plane crash captured by East Palo Alto gunfire recorder

[release]For a brief moment, the Cessna sounds like an incoming World War II bomber. A second later, the shouting on the ground begins. In second 3, the terrifying sounds of a crash "... boom "... boom "... boom-boom ... and then the shrieks grow louder as people rush from their houses.
A chilling 11 seconds of Wednesday's early morning plane crash that killed all three people on board and left a numbing path of destruction in an East Palo Alto neighborhood was captured by an unusual source: the city's cutting-edge gunfire recording system.
Crash investigators, who released a pair of audio recordings from the system Thursday, are calling it a remarkable first. Not only do the two clips convey the horror encountered just before 8 a.m. on Beech Street, they provide extraordinary evidence that may prove fundamental in discovering how the twin-engine plane plunged through the fog into an electrical transmission tower, then into a densely populated neighborhood. Somehow, nobody on the ground was injured.
"It's the first time we've had an aircraft crash captured on this type of device," said Joshua Cawthra, an aviation accident investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board.
The audio clips will be sent to Washington, D.C., where experts will analyze them to help determine the plane's engine speed and propeller rotations. They may find whether both engines were engaged, whether they revved up or down, and precisely when the failures
may have occurred. Such insights are rare because planes of this size don't include flight recorders, Cawthra said. During the plane's quick, ill-fated flight, the pilot, Doug Bourn, made no distress calls.
First installed three years ago to help battle the city's nagging crime rates, East Palo Alto's ShotSpotters sensors are located throughout the 2.5-mile city to help police detect the location of gunfire. The idea is both to deter crime and allow authorities to respond quickly to crimes in progress.
Police Chief Ron Davis said the audio recordings from the crash make clear "quite frankly, how lucky we are," despite the tragic loss of life for the three Tesla Motors employees on board.

Listen to the audio with the screams, it makes you realize the true horror when something like this happens.

That's insanely freaky.
it sounds like the plane crashed
it sounds like the plane crashed
No, just no.
They make it sound a whole lot scarier in the article than it actually is imo.

Your attempt at a pun descended fairly quickly.
I guess it didn't go as planed

That would be funnier if planned and planed where spelt the same.

I can't see how you could get any more scared than knowing that your plane is going to crash and you're going to die. :geno:
I've heard worse.
Bookmarked for future soundclip.
I felt no emotion.
...I don't think I could think straight, anymore.
Freaky...:frown:
Haha. "Brrrrrrrrrr *CRASH* RRRAAAGGHH OH NOOO".
I have a soft spot for human suffering it seems.
Sounds as my average IL2 Sturmovik landing :v:
:(

I'm a pro-pilot major, and I can tell you that plane crashes like these are pretty rare...it's usually the result of lack of piloting skill...you can dead cut the engine on an FAA-approved small plane and glide it to relative safety...so I dunno what was going on in this particular crash
The screams seem a bit over-reacting.
The screams seem a bit over-reacting.
Because knowing you're about to die and being afraid about it is over-reacting.

It seems those screams were of random people on the ground. I'm pretty sure you can get out of the way of an airplane that you hear coming from far away.
Not to say this is bad ,but I've heard worse.

In all honesty the audio isn't as bad as the article described it.

The murderer was sentenced to death 2 days later.
I thought I just heard a child scream "MOM!"
Fucking hell that scarred me.

this post made me chuckle wildly, oh god i feel bad
I was chilled until I read that nobody was hurt. I didn't feel it then; I guess I just know that those screams are of people still alive.
