Battlefield 3 looks stunning, right? Imagine a sequel to Mirror's Edge running on the same engine.
EA Games President Frank Gibeau has all but confirmed that we'll eventually see Mirror's Edge 2 running on Frostbite 2, telling Gametrailers that "you'll see that combination, I'm sure".
"We haven't killed Mirror's Edge," continued Gibeau. We're actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way. We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something I think special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that's what we're working on.

A sequel to Mirror's Edge has long been rumoured to be in development, despite reports earlier this year suggesting the game had been cancelled. EA later stated that Mirror's Edge remained "an important franchise", but wouldn't confirm that a sequel was in the works.
The news from E3, though, suggests that work on a sequel is almost certainly underway.
Mirror's Edge, developed by Battlefield developers DICE, launched back in November 2008 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Unlike Battlefield: Bad Company, the game was built on Unreal Engine 3.

Aside from making it horribly unoptimized, what advantages could the Mirror's edge series possibly need out of Frostbite? I don't want to not be able to run Mirror's edge at more than 15fps on all low a la bad company 2 just because there's some explody scenes in the game or something.

It just seems like an unnecessary convention to include terrain destruction in a running game.

How do you even know if Frostbite 2 is optimised? Have you played a game using it? I sure haven't.
Frostbite 2 looks so sexy for BF3, I hope Mirrors Edge 2 looks just as sexy and realistic.

Looking at the Frostbite engine and the statement "You can run BF3 if you can run BC2", it's pretty clear that the frostbite engine is going to be nowhere near as optimized as what UE3 can run on... For what? What are you going to do with terrain destruction if you're jumping through a concrete jungle? Wasn't Mirror's edge supposed to be a parkour game? It just seems like an unnecessary development when in the end the visuals aren't going to be that much difference but the gap in system requirements will be enourmous to the point that a lot of people aren't going to be able to buy this game.

And that's obviously detrimental to business when the casual nature of a game like mirror's edge can only be sold to hardcore gamers who spend hundreds and hundreds on their computers...

Frostbite 2 is far more advanced/visually better than UE3, especially regarding lighting and how flexible it appears to be.
Also I can run Bad Company 2 on my low-end gaming PC from 2007/2008 at medium/high settings at 1920x1080, most PC gamers will be able to run BF3/ Mirrors Edge 2 fine and those who can't usually fall into the casual crowd and will buy it on Xbox or PS3 anyway.
What you're basically saying is that we should slow down game development because of casual gamers.

Broke my automerge goddamn.

I'd like it to slow down so everyone can catch up to be honest.
Hell yeah, Mirrors Edge 2. I really need to upgrade my machine by the end of the year.

What the hell kinda PC are you trying to run BC2 on? It's perfectly well optimized, of course it won't run well on an old PC, it's a pretty modern engine.
And Frostbite 2 looks way better than UE3.

Grow up. I was talking about the effect of sales from the lower pc market not being able to run this in exchange for a relatively questionably unnecessary engine upgrade warranting the circumstances, not whining.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Oh if this is true, I am so happy.
Wait. Why is EA making games that people want? Is this some sort of trap?
Hell Yes! I played the shit out of that game. It was so addicting to speed run it. I've honestly played each level atleast 5 times each. It boggles my mind that it got some poor reviews.
I loved Mirror's Edge so much, glad to see it's still kicking.

Even if you buy a low end PC today, you'll be able to run BC2 on medium/low at a decent res and still get about 30FPS. Stop grasping at straws.

Then I think buying Mirrors Edge 2 on a console would suit you, seeing as you don't like progress.

boohoo
everything you climb and jump on will shatter and crumble
More Mirrors Edge is what I want
Yes please. Though I don't see much use for the terrain destruction. Still ME1 was one of the (maybe even THE) best looking games ever, can't wait to see ME2 then.
There is a god.

Your computer needs to grow up.
Amazing. Just... amazing.
Thread went to shit by the second post.
On topic, I for one welcome our new DICE overlords. :colbert:
I want my PhysX, asshole.
Imagine the Detail on those boobs.
They don't even need to implement the destruction for Mirrors Edge. I can see the rendering effects, animations system and (assumigly) good physics system being the main draw for frostbite 2 over UE3.

That's probably why they are using it.
I hope they keep the same amazing visual style the first had.
Some of the environments in that game were absolutely breathtaking. They better not go and turn this into some brown an bloom game.
