The money is almost twice the amount that officials had previously suggested would be requested, and would also pay for the care of the children and teenagers who are in the country illegally. As NPR's Scott Horsley reported on today's Morning Edition:
"In the past nine months, more than 50,000 children and teenagers have crossed that border illegally on their own, most from Central America. By law, the administration can't deport those young people until they have an immigration hearing — a process that can take years. "President Obama is asking lawmakers for additional money to speed up the process, but also to help warehouse the children while they're awaiting deportation."

Immigration is important and finally something is being done about it. But all this money and budget requests, fuck man. We would have done so much with if on infustrusture, education, and even health care.
have they even released the plan that would require 4B dollars to stem this flow? i mean what are we going to do, rebuild the south american countries where this is comming from? more so, where is the bulk of this money going to, is it for building new facilities, increasing boarder patrols, or what [editline]8th July 2014[/editline] it doesn't take a billion dollars to house these people while they are in transition
I personally love immigrants, they're always interesting to talk to. Lots of people seem to take the first world life style for granted imo, it's a good reality check.
I thought the title said "$3.78" and I got pretty confused.

Money to improve immigration services? Nah, throw it at infrastructure. Money for NASA and other scientific endeavours? Nah, throw it at your bloated and inefficient health budget.
Watch as the Republicans shoot it down despite them already saying he needs to do something about it.
Watch as the Republicans shoot it down despite them already saying he needs to do something about it.
Because he's doing nothing to stop the flow. If a boat is sinking, you don't grab a bigger bucket, you plug the hole THEN start bailing the boat out.

Dare I say more than alot of generally homogenous societies.

But I'm entitled to say that, I'm also entitled to know where every penny is going to be spent. Because ultimately the tax payer is paying for it. I'm also totally okay with what he is doing as long as it yields positive results. It just kills me how much money is spent and we don't get to see much benefit from it. I'm not attacking the general idea of this reform, but our spending as a govt. We have highways and bridges all over the country that do not meet standards and should be out of commission, but because of lack of funds get kept open. Were a ticking time bomb when it comes to this stuff. It isn't much to ask for the govt to take care of its people..hell they want to invade every other aspect of our lives.

The safety of those living here is vastly more important than some migrants.

[editline]8th July 2014[/editline] If the option is "keep people from a better life" or "give people a future," I choose the latter.
'Stopping the flow' is going really great here with a high court challenge and condemnation from UNHCR...
Fuck the UNHRC. ALL they do is make condemnations. They're the guy that says "you shouldn't do it that way" about literally everything, but never suggests an alternative.
My high school geography teacher told me that, a few decades ago, Mexicans and other migrants from the southern Americas saw the US road system to be the road system, but now they either equal or surpass our quality.
palin's calling for his impeachment, big surprise.
