A 20-year-old man was sentenced Monday to nearly eight years in prison for stealing the wedding ring off the hand of a dying woman late last year. Keith Byron Hickles Jr. was given a 94-month sentence by Sedgwick County District Judge Christopher Magana. Hickles was one of three men convicted of stealing items from 43-year-old Danielle Zimmerman after she suffered a fatal brain aneurysm on Dec. 29, 2013, in the drive-through of the Taco Bell at 3725 E. Harry. Zimmerman had gone to Taco Bell to get dinner for herself, her husband and two teenage sons when she became ill. Her truck crashed into the speaker box of the drive-through. She died the next day. Police recovered her purse Dec. 30. The ring remains missing.
http://www.kansas.com/news/local/crime/article4858848.html What a sack of shit
hope it was worth it, prick
8 years of prison what in the fuck
8 years of prison what in the fuck
Grand larceny.
he's a fucker, but he does not deserve 8 years in prison. 8 fucking years for stealing a metal band with a rock in it. that isn't justice
maybe he was just gonna let some pawn shops borrow it

what he did was a really despicable thing but does he really need 8 years for it? it seems like a bit much to me.

While I do think he shouldn't go unpunished, 8 years seems pretty steep for a 20 year-old's opportunistic theft.
He most likely already had a criminal record. People don't get 8 year sentences for theft on a first offense.

Harry. Quanique Thomas-Hameen, 20, was sentenced in October to 19 months in prison for theft in that case and 27 months in prison plus one year in jail on two probation violations. The third defendant, Daquantrius S. Johnson, was convicted earlier this month of aggravated burglary, robbery and misdemeanor theft in the ring theft case. He faces a maximum prison term of 182 months – more than 15 years – if Magana orders his sentences to run consecutively when he is sentenced Jan. 29.

Daquantrius S. Johnson
yep, definitely happened in the ghetto (User was banned for this post ("Racism." - Seiteki))
While I do think he shouldn't go unpunished, 8 years seems pretty steep for a 20 year-old's opportunistic theft.
The Article says he had an existing criminal record, so some of that was for repeated offence and probation violations.
Daquantrius S. Johnson
Out of sheer curiosity, where and when did names like Daquantrius start appearing among black communities? I mean, names like this aren't related to historical heritage either, are they? African communities don't use names like these as far as I can tell, so how exactly did African-Americans start landing them? What strikes me as odd are the apostrophes.
It's silly to put it that way when everyone knows these things have significance that goes *way* beyond the item itself.
in a society that praises money over everything else, that is very very surprising
It's silly to put it that way when everyone knows these things have significance that goes *way* beyond the item itself.
you're right, i usually hate it when people word things in a silly way to make things seem less serious than they actually are, so i apologize for that part. still, stealing a ring is not a crime worthy of 8 years in prison.
While I do think he shouldn't go unpunished, 8 years seems pretty steep for a 20 year-old's opportunistic theft.
Legally speaking, 8 years is rather steep for a ring theft. Morally speaking, 8 decades might be a better sentence.

They all had prior rap-sheets, if it wasn't going to be this it was just going to be something else instead. They have no sympathy from me and got what they deserved, they knew this was a risk associated with taking the ring anyways. They knew what would happen they just didn't get away with it this time.
god, you people. do you have any idea how long 8 years is? way too fucking long to be sitting in prison over theft.
Theft in addition to probation violations. Repeat offender who clearly isn't learning.
he's a fucker, but he does not deserve 8 years in prison. 8 fucking years for stealing a metal band with a rock in it. that isn't justice
I think it's not just the act of stealing the ring that influenced the severity of the punishment, but also the fact that a person was clearly in need of help and yet they took advantage of her helplessness. [editline]24th December 2014[/editline]
god, you people. do you have any idea how long 8 years is? way too fucking long to be sitting in prison over theft.
Doesn't the US have some system where you can get released from prison earlier for good conduct or something? He's not necessarily going to sit all 8 of those years out. It's harsh, but for a repeat offender AND abusing someone's state of helplessness, I don't think it's outlandish.

But shit like this doesn't surprise me anymore because it seems like people are getting more scummier and assholish everyday now.
Fuck that guy I hope he likes prison showers [editline]24th December 2014[/editline] and all of you backing him up are pussies anyone who choses to steal something off someone who is dying instead of trying to help them is clearly scum
While I completely disagree with jailing somebody for 8 years for stealing a bit of jewelry, this guy didn't get jailed for that, he got jailed for repeatedly stealing things, that's quite different.
