Muslim prisoners sue over 'contaminated' halal pies
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has confirmed that 186 inmates have launched legal cases in an attempt to win compensation over the error.
Muslims are forbidden from eating pork under Islamic law.
However, tests on halal sausage rolls, shepherd’s pies, steak and kidney pies and pasties served in three separate prisons were found to have contained pork.
It is feared that if the legal cases are successful, they could leave the way open for a flood of similar claims from other prisoners. There are 11,248 Muslims in prisons in England and Wales, accounting for 13.1 per cent of the jail population.
Ministers are expected to oppose the legal cases amid growing concerns over the compensation culture in jails.
More than £13 million in compensation was paid to inmates last year for mishaps and delays in parole hearings – twice the figure from the previous year.

He has only forbidden you what dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that over which any other (name) than (that of) Allah has been invoked; but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring, nor exceeding the limit, no sin shall be upon him; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
No offense to the guys, I understand their concern, but if their holy book says that in necessity, such as this case, it's not a big deal.
Edit:
Just noticed that they were branded Halal but were not. That's grounds for a suit/complaint in my opinion.

also by the quaran being forced to eat it isn't sinful
If they were toted as being halal but ended up full of pigs yeah no shit they should file complaints
also by the quaran being forced to eat it isn't sinful
Not sure about that but most Muslims across the board avoid eating Pork. Obviously a reasonable amount of accommodation should be done.
I hope these guys don't get shut down because of anti-Islamic sentiments.
also by the quaran being forced to eat it isn't sinful
that's probably why they are suing because now they know and now it would probably be a sin to just sit in prison munching away pork without complaining.
Cry more. Should have stayed out of prison if you wanted to maintain a strict diet.

And you should keep shitposting if you want to maintain that microscopic brain of yours
I know it's ethical for them to unknowingly eat pork but they still have a right to be mad and prevent it from happening again.

Why is this getting dumbed?

More like a complaint against the company for false advertising/bad product and against the establishment that certifies halal establishments and not a human rights issue.
Halal could we let this happen!

As if religious people actually follow everything in their religious books.
People of every faith nitpick what they want to follow.

is this your reason why its okay to be use non-halal food as halal food?
what a logical fallacy.

Cool attempt at putting words in my mouth. I didn't say that all.

But idiots still think that there's an exploit in the Quran where you can instantly send a Muslim to hell by shooting them with pork-coated bullets.

Would it be ethical to advertise something containing meat as non-meat to a vegetarian? Being a prisoner doesn't mean the institution gets to lie to you and fuck with you, especially when it comes to diet. People can die if they don't eat the right things. Obviously that's not the case here, but think of the implications of what you're saying.
I thought it would be flat-out illegal to advertise something as not containing pork only for it to contain pork anyway?

I think it's covered in one of the iterations of the Sale of Goods act, though that's false advertising in general.

I'm pretty sure it illegal to do that with anything.

I have a following.
So; you're obedient enough to follow your religion's rules, but you won't follow the law of the country you're in?
Hypocrites.

They were being given food which was labelled wrong.
How would you like it if you went to the shops to buy a load of raisin bread and when you returned home you discovered that they weren't raisins?
Very annoyed I can tell you that.

Except they're prisoners who've broken the law and they haven't got the luxury of picking what to eat.
They can starve themselves to death if they don't enjoy prison food.
Heck, they're not on a vacation, people.

Properly labeled food? Luxury! The convicts should feed on bread crumbs and drink from the dirty water that collects in the corner of their cells! Muahahaha! I'm so edgy and intelligent!

The discussion is on what they get to eat, not how much.
Serving them what they don't like is not the same as serving them barely anything.

no the discussion is about lying to people about what's in their food which is a pretty scummy thing to do.
and the guy i quoted basically said "you're a prisoner suck it up lol"
[editline]30th September 2013[/editline]
if you can't see what's wrong with that then i don't know what else to tell you.

Except you clearly equated serving the wrong thing to serving them nothing, which is a really bad comparison.

he said prisoners can either eat contaminated food or starve. the analogy is more about the fact that he seems to consider prisoners subhuman.
