Do you like Yahtzee's reviews? Ever wonder what he does in his spare time to pay the bills?
Apparently if you guessed "Co-founding an effort to open Australia's first video game bar along with Prasant Moorthy, Shay Leighton and Guy "Yug" Blomberg." you'd be right.
AUSTRALIA'S set to get its first bar dedicated to video games, writes Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson. Imagine a big night out - you're dressed in your finest duds and lurking in a darkened bar.
You have a cocktail in one hand, but why would you have a Wii controller in the other?
It's a scenario that will reach Australia next month when the country's first video game bar opens in Brisbane. And it's one that is a proven success overseas, with Wii bars offering real drinks with virtual sports.
Will it pay off?
Gamers party hard
Game experts say the formerly disparate world of nightclubbing and gaming are finally merging due to the surge of social games that encourage people to dance, sing, play an instrument or swing a controller like a tennis racquet.
Swinburne University media and communications lecturer Dr Mark Finn says the addition of these games to nightclubs is hardly surprising when you consider their fast-growing popularity.
"One of the reasons drinking and gaming go so well together is that it does take a bit of a reduction in inhibitions to play these games," he says.
"People look pretty silly when they're playing games, but when you're inside the game it seems perfectly normal.
"Also, if you look at the ads for these games, alcohol consumption is almost implicit in them. Lots of young people gather around consoles at parties and there is an assumption that it's part of our party culture now."
Dr Finn says the move is also more proof of what he calls the "mainstreaming of games", where more and more people are picking up a controller for the first time.
Where does Yahtzee fit in?
Mr Blomberg, who is the owner of AustralianGamer.com, teamed with three friends - games critic Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, Sega designer Prasant Moorthy, and bartender Shay Leighton - to bring the bar concept to life.
Only one of the four has bar experience. The other two, like him, have experience in the video game industry - something Mr Blomberg says is paying off.
Too early to tell if this is going to get off the ground. They're planning on opening pretty soon. Either way it's pretty badass.

I suspect it will be similar to drunken darts.

Why do I suspect Atkinson to utterly ruin this?
Damn, the other guys might just be short but Yahtzee is huge.
A Video Game bar in Australia in this day and age is akin to a Speakeasy in New York back in the 20's. Good luck Yahtzee.
Yahtzee's gonna take you to a game bar, game bar
He's a super star
at the game bar game bar!
I met him IRL at a festival in Melbourne and took a photo of my friend with him. He was an absolute cunt.
He was an absolute cunt.
we already know
No no no, he exceeded expectations!
Looks pretty cool. Can't remember how many times alcohol and Video games has been awesome. Only 5 consoles might be a bit crap though, huge lines on a popular night would not be fun.
Drunker Bar Fights with Wii Boxing.

You can already tell by pictures he's in, he always looks like he thinks he's above everyone.
But you've peaked my interest, what exactly did he say/do?
This is a brilliant idea. Whenever I play video games with my brother at night, he usually has some sort of brew with him. Especially when we play Rock Band.
Props to Yahtzee. I hope to visit this bar some day in my life. Pray that Atkinson doesn't try to ruin it. D:
Awesome, hope the concept spreads.
I saw him at GameX over in Oaks, PA last year.
I was shy enough just being there, I wasn't going to fucking talk to him.
nice.

Go watch zero punctuation, he is a prick to everything and everyone in it.
That sounds like my kind of bar.

I'm not too worried about that. Just put him in the same room as Yahtzee and sluice it out a few hours later.
Will he sit around making fun of the games people are playing in front of him?
And to keep up the business every once and a while Yahtzee will go in and make fun of the games people play in there.
I live like a kilometre from where it is, I intend to spend every third waking moment there.
Me and him have the same birthday, May 24.
