Royal Mail customers reacted angrily yesterday after it emerged that it auctions off the contents of 75,000 undelivered packages that become "lost in the post" each year.
Even customers who paid extra for supposedly "secure" services have discovered that items they sent were lost in the postal system and put up for auction.
A retired teacher, John Beattie, uncovered the problem after he found a set of rare bagpipes he posted were on sale on the auction website eBay.
I wonder what sort of things they will get or whether it will be a mystery box delivered.
↓ look all the mail is left down there
Any better source? This seems like daily mail fiction to me.
For the love of the god, EVEN THE MAIL SERVICE is being idiotic.
E: The source is Daily Mail though, so this post might be wrong.
Well if they do sell it items, I wonder if they will not deliver it so they can sell it again
this sounds like massive bullshit
I searched and there are no sources for this aside from the Daily Mail. not credible, not gonna believe it

I don't see why people get upset, most packages go left unclaimed for years. Most people forget about it, or get replacements sent in, insurance covers it, and even get account credits.
Storage units do this, Airports do this, so why not let post offices do it?
All it is going to do is sit (which of course there is a time limit before it gets sold off) and waste space and resources. So let the post offices make money off of it.
At least they need to do is put in a claim system so if someone does rediscover the item on ebay and have proof it belongs them they can get it without issues.

because that's illegal??? unlike airports or storage units the post office only exists to deliver an item or return it to sender

Probably because the title of the forum is Sensationalist Headlines, which is exactly what the Daily Mail is full of.

The title is not supposed to be taken literally. It's just a hub for news.

that name is a joke
Any better source? This seems like daily mail fiction to me.
If anything, the Daily Mail would be less likely now to slag off the Royal Mail now that it's privatized.
1. Sell the lost stuff on ebay
2. Lose the stuff while delivering it again
3. Goto "1"

Actually, it seems the mail article was from 2007 and updated.

Odd wording but I assume for some reason it was updated today.
Hey there is that costume I ordered that never came :(
I bought a quad-copter while in England, played with it for a few minutes in a windy car park, then posted it to my house in Spain the day before we got the flight there.
Never arrived :C
