Kind of a scary image, looking up to a sunless sky, seeing how the glow from other planets just fade away.

Also love the theory of wandering planets being thawed by other stars. Some sick Sci-fi could be made from that.
I'd love to see a full simulation on how those extremophiles could live and eventually evolve into complex species, even intelligent ones, based on a totally different environment.

Sounds like the aliens in "The Abyss".

It wouldnt really "fade away", it would more like shut down like a lamp.

It would take a lot of energy for intelligent life to form, but it is certainly possible.
what if we created sea-cities and survived off of chemo-synthesizing plants and fishies too
and then we just shot ourself out of the sun's pull
our first ever inter-galactic spaceship is our planet
Nice video, but fortunately it can't happen. Still, it filled me with hope Earth could eventually regain it's full life again and never actually die. Unless it gets hit with something on it's journey to next star.

Or is unlucky enough to get sucked into a black hole.
As it drifts on it's course is altered as the gravity from the black hole drifts it closer, depending on the strength of the black hole it could suck it in. That would suck.
There's also a probability of Earth crashing directly into or getting extremely close to a nearby star, which could be a bit unpleasant.
Man, VSauce is a pretty cool guy. That aside, this would be a fucking awesome concept for a game. Similar to, say, STALKER or Metro in style.

You do have that Europa game.
Europa is basically a sort of earth but then with all water, there is potentially life under the huge ice sheeet.
What if indeed.

If I recall correctly there's development being done on a kind of rover... except it'd be a submarine. Just to explore planets like this, and similar.
He sounds like the guy off national treasure
VSauce has got a lot of things theoretically wrong before but I still love his videos, they're intriguing and he has a nice voice
Sounds incredibly dangerous. What if we hit an asteroid belt?
Well, nuclear winter is kinda moot, and regardless the chances of that are still absurdly slim.
Is Jupiter's gravity enough to grab us if we were in the right spot in relation to it when the sun disappeared?
Sounds incredibly dangerous. What if we hit an asteroid belt?
Asteroid belts generally consist of very drawn out debris, it's not like star wars when you just see a giant line of rocks just spinning around.
sudden premise for a sci-fi story.
Sun disappeared, nobody knows why, Jupiter snagged us and after a genius move by someone later hailed as a hero, a plan was put in place to shift earth ever so slightly to one side and stabilize our orbit around jupiter. So now we're part of the jovian system.
story starts on the 1st anniversary of the founding of the Jovian System. The actions of the planet's hero paved way for a unified planetary government, and during the anniversary ceremony a plan is revealed to launch a missile into Jupiter's atmosphere to ignite it into a very dull star, providing much needed heat to the quickly chilling planet earth. However things quickly turn for worse when a member of the research team behind Operation Jovian Hammer turns up dead in his home. Who would assassinate a member of a project meant to save the earth, and why?

This, is something I would watch (or read).

Not at orbital velocity, even if the planet swung close to Jupiter it would barely move it.
