Japan’s first ever VR porn festival took place recently and apparently there was so much interest in the festival that it had to be cancelled prematurely due to fears of overcrowding. The VR trend is new to porn and it’s quickly gaining steam and the response to this festival shows that it’s going to continue growing at a monumental pace as people are genuinely curious about how virtual reality contributes to the dare I say, experience.

Sound proofing?
If you mean you don't want other people to hear the porn sounds, headphones/earphones with good enough isolation that even somebody sitting right next to you couldn't make out what you're listening to have been a large part of the market for years if not decades.

Also if you just want to watch videos, high-end smartphones are arguably good enough for that. Sure, you still have the problems of image quality, head tracking (especially avoiding drift), and convenience/comfort, but the processing power is sufficient and you don't need a fancy platform or input method for it. Like, if you've any interest in VR porn, a $10 Cardboard kit should be enough to figure out whether you like it, and upgrading to a proper headset for a slightly better experience should be hard to justify for most people.

Porn has driven much of technological progress. In fact, the Apollo and Manhattan projects were both originally designed as a means of porn distribution.

that's not really true. amazon, google and MS are the driving forces behind that, and it's evidenced behind their software offerings and how they share their technology. you don't see youporn publishing open-source cloud hosting tech, nor do you hear of them pushing video encoding quality or technology. they might adapt it quickly, but they're not the driving force behind or creating the tech. they simply don't attract the talent for that kind of stuff.
that being said, they'll still obviously be a driving force for VR.

we would still have all those things. porn might have impacted beta vs VHS 40 years ago, but it didn't impact DVD or streaming that much (flash is STILL used on many porn sites, and many of the html5 players still suck on even the most popular sites).
