You know, I actually heard this on the radio in the store the other day, along with some other Rick Astley songs. He's apparently fairly popular even today, which is weird, but he's talented enough that I don't really mind. The guy hit multi-platinum sales in the UK and US for a reason. Still tours, too, if you're into that kind of thing.

It became an inside joke at 4chan and spread from there. And before that was the duckroll.

The joke was that the song is about being a legitimate guy and caring when people were mostly clicking the vid to see that thumbnail ass

It originated from 4chan back in 2007 when GTA4 hype was flaring up, someone posted a link to it and said it was the trailer, and a [I]lot[/I] of people fell for it
