So for my Foundation Course in Art (basically a 1 year course that must be done in order to do any BA in Art) I am specialising in the area of theatre. Think that sounds a little funky? A little... 'fabulous!!!', if you know what I mean?
WRONG!!!
Theatre means props, and props mean awesome.
And awesome is a synonym of manly.
BEHOLD.
The result of a 2 week project based on Hallucinations called 'Getting out of it'
Basically I took the scene from MacBeth where Malcolm's army cuts down trees in Birnam Wood and carries them to hide their numbers, and built a piece that would sort of reflect how Macbeth would see this force.
Actually it was an excuse to make some cool shiz, in this case a helmet. Enjoy!

C&C Appreciated!
Nice to meet someone else in the theatrical profession (I thought I was the only one on Facepunch!)
That's a truly nice prop, great attention to detail. Was the tree sticking up at the top a model or carved from something?
Thank you! Nice to know I have a comrade-in-arts!
The big tree on top was carved from blue poly, then papier-mached in tissue paper and painted. I then covered it with a combination of sawdust, earth and modelmakers' turfs.
That thing is so cool. How many hours did you work on it a day? I know it was a 2 week project, but how much time did it take total?
Looks cool, but it also looks kinda gross to wear.

Total time... I'm guesstimating around 30 hours... maybe a little less. Maybe a little more!
A lot of the time spent on it I was waiting for glue to dry

Yeah it's definitely not wearable!
Although it was originally designed to be - was was initially - wearable (see below), it was a tight fit to begin with and adding papier-mache and foliage on the inside only worsened this. Having finished it I found a dummy head to pose it on, which I painted green and brown to blend in with the piece. Unfortunately due to the tightness of the helmet I had to hack off about 30% of the sides of the head just to get it on. Meh!

ah yes high density foam, great stuff to use! (P.S. It's cheaper at builders merchants like Travis Perkins if you're in the UK)
It seriously looks amazing.
Looks awesome! Should try make one myself.
Looks like something you'd find on an old skeleton in an mmo or something
Thanks guys, and thanks for the tip dead60!
Luckily my Uni has a lot of whatever-you-call-that-stuff so I can easily plunder the workshop there, mwahahaha
That's incredibly badass. You should wear it to the grocery store and hide in the freezers where they keep the ice cream.
I picture this helmet as being what some awesome group of tree knights would wear who defend the Ents from LOTR.
That is pretty fucking cool man. Nice job.

YES
I kind of had the Ents in mind when building it. Thanks guys!
Very unique idea, which was very well executed.
Awesome hat, nice work!

Perhaps I should have someone model it and submit it to TF2? :v:
Create the rest of the suit and you can be one with the forest.
