After controversial anti-vaccine activist Jenny McCarthy was let go from The View, the producers were presumably looking for someone with less of a history of being on the wrong side of public policy. In Rosie O’Donnell, they made an awful choice. O’Donnell killed an endangered hammerhead shark for fun, bragged about the experience, and insulted conservationists who were upset at her actions. O’Donnell has been a frequent customer of “Mark the Shark,” an infamous shark hunter—that is, one of the few charter boat operators in Florida who doesn’t practice catch and release when fishing for sharks. He claims to have personally killed more than 100,000 sharks. Mark the Shark’s website, which features a photo gallery of scantily clad women lying on top of dead fish, includes warnings like “photos on this site may not be suitable for children, the faint-hearted, or PETA members,” and “We DON’T fly release flags, but we DO hang fish upside down.” I met him once, and the picture you’ve probably formed in your head from reading the description above is pretty accurate. On one trip, O’Donnell and her family caught and killed a great hammerhead shark and then posed for a picture next to their “trophy.”
http://www.slate.com/blogs/wild_things/2014/07/11/rosie_o_donnell_on_the_view_new_co_host_killed_an_endangered_hammerhead.html
Was wondering if this would make it here. [editline]12th July 2014[/editline] Read this too: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/science-sushi/2014/07/12/endangered-keep-using-word-think-means-think-means/#.U8IKWLGcH_R Also this: (hint: it's me)
Disgusting.
I've heard whales are known to kill sharks on occasion.
So what happened is like a year ago a picture of Rosie O'Donnell surfaced of her with the giant dead Great Hammerhead shark (now Endangered) and shark scientists, including David Shiffman (the author of the article) chimed in among others (animal rights folk, the usual) but Rosie was basically rude and unsympathetic to scientists with legitimate concerns. David Shiffman asks Rosie for an apology for being rude and she refuses. Fast forward to now, Rosie gets a new job on The View and David Shiffman thinks its bullshit so he exhumes the old picture and begins tweeting and makes this article. The whole thing starts all over again, I decided to chime in with typical stuff everyone else was saying and for some reason Rosie decides that I was the best one to respond to idk. I respond, everyone else responds, we destroy her, she still refuses to be accountable for being a rude, unapologetic person, etc. Come today, I see the situations still going. I go digging through Mark The Shark's (another terrible person) website of celebrities on his fishing charters. Not looking for anything in particular, just looking. I stumble across another picture of Rosie with a different (now Endangered) Great Hammerhead shark. (a long with a lot of other celebrities posing with their dead endangered sharks) I tweet that out to the Shiffmeister and stoke the flames because now she's killed two of the poor bastards. Carl Zimmer picks it up, and continues to spread ROSIEGATE around. Next thing I know there's a blog post for Discover Magazine and it has a direct link to my tweet and now I see this come up on Facepunch and I can't help but feel like I had a tiny part in it. Curious to see how far it'll go. I'll post the twitter links on 30bad (a vegan/animal rights site) to help raise the issue. Maybe Durianrider will talk about it.
I hope the Japanese hunt Rosie O'Donnell down. Cause she's a whail.
She has messed up big time.
