Rhys Ifans' mysterious villain isn't the only bad guy coming to play with Spider-Man — though in fairness, there's plenty of mystery surrounding this latest rogue as well.
"Slumdog Millionaire" actor Irrfan Khan has joined the cast of director Marc Webb's "Spider-Man" reboot as a character named Van Atter, with "Rubicon" actress Annie Parisse playing his wife. The Hollywood Reporter states that Van Atter is a villainous role, saddling up alongside Ifans as the film's primary antagonists.
But Khan and Parisse aren't the only new actors joining the "Spider-Man" cast, as Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson have been tasked with playing Peter Parker's parents.
That's right, in addition to Uncle Ben and Aunt May appearing in "Spider-Man," it appears that the webslinger's birth parents are going to have a role to play as well. There's no word on whether they'll appear in flashbacks or during a prologue, though we're betting that it's some combination of the two. The inclusion of the Parker parents lends some credibility to an earlier rumor that producers were looking to hire a child actor to play young Peter Parker.
As for the newly announced villain, we'll admit that we're scratching our heads trying to remember who Van Atter is. There's no word on whether or not he's a new character or if he's somebody from the comics, and frankly, we're coming up empty. What do you think — little known Spider-baddie, or a brand new menace?
Thread title made it look like his parents were going to be the villains.
Why do we need a spiderman reboot?
Why do we need a spiderman reboot?
Because $890 million in revenue from Spiderman 3 isn't a bigger number than Batman's $1 billion.
Mysterious villain you say? *fingers crossed* Please let Van Atter be code for Mysterio!

Is there no comics other than Xmen or Spiderman that Marvel can use?

They're already developing, have developed, more movies from their large collection of characters.

The Avengers are getting movies, as is Deadpool. And the director of X-Men Origins said he's interested in doing a movie about Gambit. (About fucking time IMO)
Spider-man 4 would've been nice, but I'm really looking forward to this.
Sound's intriguing but i would have liked to see more iconic Spiderman villain's first rather than just some brand new ones.

the last spiderman movie came out 3 years ago. We do not need a reboot that soon

You seem to be ignorant on why they decided to do a reboot.

No carnage :frown:
I really liked Tobey Maguire's performance in Spider Man 1-3, even though I didn't like some of the writing in 3. I think I would have much preferred a sequel than a reboot. Now The Hulk, that movie needed a reboot, but for a series that didn't need one, and had good movies come out recently, I feel like they're just milking it at this point.
I predict that this will probably either be terrible, or do terribly in the box office.

I think it just boils down to the fact that they want to make more money.
Hopefully Marc Webb doesn't hate Venom. Fuck Sam Raimi.

Can't possibly be that there's an Avengers movie coming out that features spiderman in it. How could they just insert a new spidey with no background? Oh wait, they can't.
Don't bother thinking about it guys.
Spiderman 3 was one of my favourite comedy films, I don't see any need for a reboot.

Hehe...Webb, spiderman movie.
does anyone have that image from cracked about how reboots are getting closer and closer together?
there's no reason to why it needs a reboot
its just retarded
When will they be done with this franchise? It's been going on forever. Just give Spiderman a rest, there's a million other great Marvel comics to make movies out of.

Have you seen the Green Lantern trailers? Justice League made me think he was black and if he actually is black in the comics, I guess Hollywood thought it would be a bad idea for a black guy as the main character of a superhero movie.

There are many green lanterns, I read an Alien-Green lantern crossover once, in that he was white.

The Green Lantern in the movie is Hal Jordan. He's considered to be the best green lantern.
He's also the first earth green lantern, which is why he's the main character.
Hey I just watched slumdog millionaire.
