Three soldiers guarding a Jewish community center have been wounded by a knife-wielding attacker in Nice, in southern France, police say. The country has suffered a spate of hate crimes in recent months.
http://rt.com/news/228975-soldiers-attack-france-knife/
Surprised they didnt just shoot him
The country has suffered a spate of hate crimes in recent months.
I know they have had trouble with anti-Muslim attacks and protests since Charlie Hebdo, but not anti-Jewish. How much hate crime goes on in France?
I know they have had trouble with anti-Muslim attacks and protests since Charlie Hebdo, but not anti-Jewish. How much hate crime goes on in France?
France has a huge population of Muslims, particularly African muslims. Who as a matter of general course, don't tend to like Jews very much. There has been a fairly significant amount of anti-semitic hate crime in France post 2000.
I know they have had trouble with anti-Muslim attacks and protests since Charlie Hebdo, but not anti-Jewish. How much hate crime goes on in France?
Whats to say that it wasn't Muslims attacking the soldiers for their defence of the Jews?

Well, that ain't Nice.

I mean, where's the evidence of some rising tide of antisemitism?

I mean, where's the evidence of some rising tide of antisemitism?
If you take a look at some of the links I posted above, both antisemitic opinions and antisemitic crimes have been in the rise in the last decade. To quote the wikipedia article on antisemitism in France:
The following year, the ADL conducted an opinion survey in 10 European countries regarding antisemitic attitudes. According to the survey, the overall level of antisemitism in France increased to 24 percent of the population, up from to 20 percent in 2009 - 45 percent responded "probably true" to the statement, "Jews are more loyal to Israel" than their own country, up from 38 percent in 2009. 35 percent responded "probably true" to the statement, "Jews have too much power in the business world", up from 33 percent in 2009. 29 percent responded "probably true" to the statement "Jews have too much power in international financial markets", up from 27 percent in 2009.[17] Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, has said regarding those findings: "In France, you have a volatile mix. France has seen an increase in the level of anti-Semitism. At the same time, more people today believe that violence directed against European Jews is fueled by anti-Jewish attitudes as opposed to anti-Israel sentiment. Those increases are all the more disturbing in light of the shooting attack at the Jewish school in Toulouse."
Similarly, if you look at wikipedia's article on antisemitism in Europe:
Antisemitism has increased significantly in Europe since 2000, with significant increases in verbal attacks against Jews and vandalism such as graffiti, fire bombings of Jewish schools, desecration of synagogues and cemeteries. Those incidents took place not only in France and Germany, where antisemitic incidents are the highest in Europe but also in countries like Belgium, Austria, and the United Kingdom. In those countries, physical assaults against Jews including beatings, stabbings and other violence, increased markedly, in a number of cases resulting in serious injury and even death.[8][9] Moreover, the Netherlands and Sweden have also had consistently high rates of antisemitic attacks since 2000.
And-
According to a poll conducted by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in 2012, anti-Semitic attitudes in ten European countries remain at "disturbingly high levels", peaking in Eastern Europe and Spain, with large swaths of the population subscribing to classical anti-Semitic notions such as Jews having too much power in business, being more loyal to Israel than their own country, or "talking too much" about what happened during the Holocaust. In comparison with a similar ADL poll conducted in 2009, several of the countries showed high levels in the overall level of anti-Semitism, while other countries experienced more modest increases:[28] Austria: Experienced a slight decrease to 28 percent from 30 percent in 2009. France: The overall level of antisemitism increased to 24 percent of the population, up from to 20 percent in 2009. Germany: antisemitism increased by one percentage point, to 21 percent of the population. Hungary: The level rose to 63 percent of the population, compared with 47 percent in 2009. Poland: The number remained unchanged, with 48 percent of the population showing deep-seated antisemitic attitudes. Spain: Fifty-three percent (53%) percent of the population, compared to 48 percent in 2009. United Kingdom: antisemitic attitudes jumped to 17 percent of the population, compared to 10 percent in 2009.
I will say about my country that is just the far-right wing people being too nationalistic and going with the "they took our jobs" with just any foreigner. We would be REALLY fucked if it the 53% of the population were racist. They are actually much less (I gonna bet that is actually the 24% of the total, that are the ones who will continue voting the actual far-right group, right now in power). They just catch all the attention. Trust us.

So a person who doesn't hold any grudge against Jews but still believes, for example, that Spanish Jews are more loyal to Israel than they are to their own country, or that Jews have control over global economy will still be counted as antisemitic.
