• McCain calls on the US to provide military aid to Ukraine
(CNN) - Speaking in Kiev, Sen. John McCain called Saturday for the United States to provide long-term military assistance to Ukraine, saying it is "the right and decent thing to do," as reports surfaced that Russian troops had traveled farther north into Ukraine from Crimea. McCain was part of a bipartisan delegation of U.S. senators who traveled to Kiev ahead of Sunday's secession referendum in Crimea. The White House and U.S. allies in Europe have denounced the referendum as unconstitutional and illegal because Russian troops have essentially taken over the southern Ukraine peninsula. McCain also had strong words for President Barack Obama in an op-ed appearing in The New York Times. He called for the President to take actions to restore the United States' credibility and strength around the world. no the right thing to do is tie off Russia's balls to economy benefits or whatever the US gives them, the US will take a backlash, but Russia will take it harder I think it's better than instigating a small break out of firefights that may result in something worse
Yes please, let's just sit there and outplay them at their own game. No one wants to shoot, and we can sit there as long as they want.
I really doubt the Russian government is going to care about economic sanctions. Unfortunately, I do see the Russian army taking eastern Ukraine. Probably for the same reason they took Crimea. Ultimately, the only way to stop the situation from expanding is to put up a wall they won't cross. A wall called an army.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin allegedly declared at a NATO-Russia summit in 2008 that if Ukraine joined NATO his country could contend to annex the Ukrainian East and Crimea.
I'd be okay with just supplying Ukraine some modern equipment, give them some of those surplus tanks we have.
I'd be okay with just supplying Ukraine some modern equipment, give them some of those surplus tanks we have.
The problem is you'd have to train them on the use of the new modern equipment. Which would take time they don't have. If you want to equip them we'd have to get some of the other countries which use similar or the same equipment to give it to Ukraine. And reimburse those countries with other equipment.
NOOO THAT IS NOT GOOD IDEA NO. NO.
Does McCain need his pills?
It was only a matter of time for Mccain to say this. He was pro Libya, pro Syria, pro intervention in practically every major recent conflict.
It was only a matter of time for Mccain to say this. Technically we have to due to the 1994 treaty...

I'd rather the incident be isolated to Ukraine than have innocent russians hurt too.
Yes please, let's just sit there and outplay them at their own game. No one wants to shoot, and we can sit there as long as they want.
This is what we should have done in the first place, immediately after they invaded the Crimea.
Go home McCain. You aren't relevant anymore, and could drop dead at any minute.
Don't see the reason to disagree with this, diplomatic backlash and the threat of economic sanctions have done nothing to prevent Russian forces from moving further inland. We need to set up a line that they will not cross
I think they need to set up garrisons of NATO troops on the border until things calm down and to contain the Russians. No one wants to get into a fight and that would probably stop them. Russia just recently grab another chunk of land that they thought looked nice, whats to stop them again?
let's start a war c'mon guys, it'll be fun
Really at this point the only thing that's gonna stop Russia is the threat of starting something with a few big NATO nations. We need to have people there to force the Russians to either be more careful or back the fuck up entirely.
The Russians need to be shown that they cannot be allowed to do whatever they want. It's same as Civ5 except I'm not the only one with nukes
McCain wants to intervene in every conflict.
People who think it's about supplying military aid are fools. Look at all the times we've done that and it failed. Really, people like McCain have to step up and explain if they think US troops should be sent to fight the Russians, since that's the only way to stop them. And if people are in favor of a war with Russia over Ukraine I'd really like to hear how they think that's anything other than reckless stupidity.
Hitler and Mussolini did the exact same thing before WWII started, at the time the League of Nations also didn't do shit.

Ukraine is a developed economy with infrastructure. If we help them and get involved, it would actually benefit them. If we were to use those past situations to justify not going, we could easily make the repeat of Hitler argument. (FOR FUCK'S SAKE THEY JUST HAD THE OLYMPICS THERE TO SHOW HOW POWERFUL THEY ARE.)
Man, the level of ignorance around here is astounding in regards to this Ukraine stuff. I mean, I don't know shit about it because I live on the other side of the globe, but i'm not pretending to know. All these people trying to compare Russia/Putin to Hitler. The hell? Just because a country Annex's another country doesn't mean its WW3. In fact, Hilter did it by Force and at gunpoint. Putin moved troops in, but did not enter into large conflict. With these votes, legitimate or not, it seems the local population is interested in joining Russia. There are discontent between the two parties (russian/Ukranian) but the locals don't even want violence. Sorry, but you all are nits. Besides, Putin as the next Hitler? Maybe, but c'mon.
In fact, Hilter did it by Force and at gunpoint.
Not with Austria, the Sudetenland, Bohemia OR Memel.
Not with Austria, the Sudetenland, Bohemia OR Memel.
Okay, wheres the 'touche' icon. But those people were improverished and desperate for solid leadership that would offer an alternative future, yet then none were delivered. Whereas in the Ukraine, there are many that are saying the Ukrainian government has become quite Fascist, and so many would rather live under the Russian Federation rather than Fascism. But this is what i've heard.
I don't think the west will do anything meaningful, just like with Syria's chemical weapons attack not too long ago.
McCain is such a warmongering little shit.
