Tony Girder was too close to a power line last month when he helped students participate in an Ice Bucket Challenge
One of four firefighters hurt last month as they helped college students take part in an Ice Bucket Challenge has died of his injuries.
The killed firefighter, Tony Grider, suffered an electric shock when his fire truck’s ladder got too close to a power line. The incident happened shortly after the firefighters poured cold water on Campbellsville University students in Kentucky, the Associated Press reported last month.
A truly sad way to go, it must have been an awful shock to all those at watching him.
Well that sucks.
how come whenever people see fads like this challenge they go "you know what, im going to do it more extreem and instead of an ice bucket it's going to be a bucket full of crocodiles and dynamite! im not gonna get hurt!"
[editline]sd[/editline]
maybe not neccesarily exemplified with this article but it's still a dumb way to go.
Who the fuck thought getting close to a power line is a good idea
It's been a month, hoping it wasn't an infection. He was Lifelinked out of there. Electrical burns can do some crazy shit to your internal organs

TNT Ice Bucket Challenge
Power line? I mean, that is totally preventable considering they are firefighters. That's just kinda baffling that safety precaution wasn't taken.
This ice bucket challenge is taking more lives than its saving.
Not really, but damn, so many people have died because of this.

I would say so, chances are this whole campaign won't directly save anyone, but it has killed two if I recall correctly.

you mean the ice bucket challenge on crack-cocaine, takes more live than it saves.
it's not the doing of the challenge, it's the doing of the people that decide to be stupid. stupid people are going to end up killing themselves no matter what it's for..
before you do anything with ground ladders or aerials, please look up
Pretty ridiculous, how could they fuck this up? Manslaughter in my opinion.

Becuase, I see it as either 1 of 2 ways.
1) People love to outdo each other all the time, it makes sense that naturally we want to compete and see "EXTREME CHEDDAR" all the time.
2) Some people genuinely care about the disease they're raising funds for, so they do over the top ones, in order to get more views, ergo, more money for the charity they're representing.
Yeah let's try and lock up one of the people who saves lives for a living just because one of their friends unluckily passed away on the job, lol.
Saves lives? he fucking ended his friends life because he fucked up a simple fucking safety law of how close you can get to a power line.
When i play this scene out in my mind, it's impossible for this to be not a horrendously stupid mistake (How did this guy become a firefighter?)
I honestly don't see how this happened, he must have literally raised his friend into power lines.....
Also, unluckily? being unlucky had nothing to do with this; stupidity is the only thing that led to this.
Although i guess guilt will burn that idiot inside out.
People aren't reading the article before posting.
snip, oh he died.

People make mistakes, apparently he thought it was at a safe difference. You don't have to be in direct contact with power lines for the celerity to jump.

I have an idea that maybe since they weren't doing their job, but doing something for fun, they didn't follow procedures they normally do. I've noticed when people make dumb mistakes doing something they are knowledgeable about it's almost always because they are doing something outside their normal way of working.

People make mistakes that kill people, it's called manslaughter.
And yes, there is safe distances a person should be from power lines and this guy should have known them; but he didn't and now his friend is dead.
