I have a Compaq CQ60-415. It has a 15.6" screen and I bring it to school a lot. I am trying to find a messenger bag that could also fit a couple textbooks/notebooks. Any recommendations?

Carried one throughout my freshman year and it's just an inconvienience because it's hard to carry, strains on your shoulder (At least with my 15-pound laptop), doesn't fit much, and brushes against your side when you walk with it

That's the only thing I agree with, but easily solved by switching shoulders once in a while.

Everyone uses them. The problem is carrying backpacks with that much weight. Doesn't work long-term. Everyone at my school uses messenger bags.

Exaggerating. More like ten pounds with all the stuff I need to set up the computer in a reasonable place.
Just use a backpack, even though it's going to be heavier it's a lot simpler and easier than a messenger bag.

I use one for college but not for laptop. I just like the style of them as I hate the backpack kind.

I got an Eastpack backpack, there is a laptop sleeve in it, and plenty of room for books.
Buy a large sports back pack from a sporting goods store. Lots of room and guaranteed to last if you are carrying only books. Only recommendation for a messenger bag is the Swiss Army brand messenger bag.

Or you could get a backpack that has a compartment for a laptop.
I have a Messenger Bag for University, it's awesome.
I use a bag like this for school:

In college I carry around my laptop, a folder chock full of paperwork, plus a textbook or two, and my SLR camera in a front pocket, in my backpack. Admittedly, one designed for carrying lots of heavy shit, but it hasn't broken yet. It ain't too heavy to carry, either. Messenger bags would annoy me.
My backpacks got a compartment that can hold my laptop. Plus it looks right cool man.
I use a ASUS branded laptop messenger bag, and my laptop is a Zepto.
Needless to say, I've got quite a few laughs, from ASUS brandwhores flaming me :v:
I use my messenger in college, I love it... fits the stuff I need and my laptop. Most people use backpacks though. Oh well. I have one of those to. Anyways, I have an Ogio one, and it is amazing. Got it at Best Buy
I used to use a bag similar (same company) to this one, mine doesn't have that dumb zip on it.
I have to say I am going to continue using it for college and my netbook.
