The Arab League is calling for a joint Arab-UN peacekeeping mission to end the 11-month conflict in Syria.
In a resolution agreed by its foreign ministers and seen by news agencies, it scrapped its observer team, suspended last month as violence increased.
The League said it was ending all diplomatic co-operation with Syria and urging contacts with the opposition.
The League's moves come a week after a UN Security Council resolution on Syria was vetoed by Russia and China.
A statement issued by the League after the Cairo meeting said it would "ask the UN Security Council to issue a decision on the formation of a joint UN-Arab peacekeeping force to oversee the implementation of a ceasefire".

Jesus, if the Army can fire on civilians, what makes them think they won't fire on an armed peace-keeping mission?

Nothing, but if they did they would get shot at by what I would assume to be a better trained and better equipped force.

That's true, but I'm more worried about numbers and firepower.
We really don't a repeat of the Battle of Mogadishu.
I wonder what Russia and China will have to say. I mean, why would they keep supporting Syria when virtually everyone else in the world is against them?
I reckon the Arab league should play a significant role in a peace keeping mission.

Yeah, but what will they have to say? They can't just say, "Oh , we just like them for the guns" they have to have some bullshit reason that they'll say.

Because they know everyone still thinks they are massively powerful and are exploiting it.
