A massive underground city that dates back 5,000 years has been discovered in Turkey's Central Anatolian province. The city, unearthed by archaeologists, is believed to be the world's biggest underground city ever to be found. "The underground city was discovered when we began the destruction in line with the protocol. The first galleries were spotted in 2013. We applied to the [Cultural and Natural Heritage] Preservation Board and the area was officially registered," Ünver said, adding artefacts have already been excavated from the site. Archaeologists hope to find out more about the city, including who created it and how many people lived there, over the coming years.
source: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/massive-ancient-underground-city-unearthed-turkey-could-be-worlds-biggest-1481360

The subterranean settlement was discovered in the Nevşehir province of Turkey’s Central Anatolia region, in the historical area of Cappadocia. Cappadocia is famous in archaeological circles for its large number of underground settlement. But the site, located around the Nevşehir hill fort near the city of Kayseri, appears to dwarf all other finds to date. Hasan Ünver, the mayor of the city on those outskirts the discovery was found, said other underground cities were nothing more than a “kitchen” compared to the newly uncovered settlement. Mehmet Ergün Turan, the head of Turkey’s housing development administration, said the discovery was made during the groundwork for a housing project meant to develop the area.
It's the damn mole people I tell you!
More likely the [sp]Kree[/sp]. On a more serious note, I hope they make some cool archeological discoveries there.
So how deep is it? Is it like the catacombs and it's pretty expansive but only just below the surface or are we talking ant colony type shit?
So how deep is it? Is it like the catacombs and it's pretty expansive but only just below the surface or are we talking ant colony type shit?
A sister colony, which was discovered earlier and also in anatolia, had 11 levels of depth. So if they say this one is bigger, it could be even deeper!
Minecraft chunk errors in real life. But for real, more secrets of the past are always cool. Human history is very deep, we just don't know most of it because we have no records of it. About 10% of the Amazon was man-made from deliberate soil fertilization over a span of a thousand years, but they left behind almost no other trace, having lived in organic constructions.
Looking good for 5000-years old ruins. There's got to be so much awesome shit deep inside.
Truly a discovery of the century. One can only imagine what we could learn from these ancient ruins, so many questions have now been raised. What was life like in this troglopolis? By what name did the city-state go by? How did the city fall into decline all those thousands of years ago? I hope that we get some good expeditions to the city. It is truly great that, even in the 21st century, there are still ancient secrets and mysteries to be unearthed. Makes you wonder what else lies forgotten and buried, doesn't it?
