Calling the company's Christmas 2010 launch "a mistake of implementation of a gigantic nature," De Luca told investors that the company had "brought closure to the Logitech Revue saga" by making plans to let inventory run out this quarter and that there are "no plans to introduce another box to replace Revue." De Luca suggested that Google TV was far from ready at launch, go so far as to call it "beta" software on one presentation slide, and that the company made a massive misstep by believing that it would revolutionize television right out the of the gate. In short, Logitech "executed a full scale launch with a beta product and it cost us dearly." He added more color about Logitech's failure to read the television market in his remarks: To make the long story short, we thought we had invented [sliced] bread and we just made them. [We made a commitment to] just build a lot because we expected everybody to line up for Christmas and buy these boxes [at] $300 [...] that was a big mistake. The mistake, plus "operational miscues in EMEA" cost the company "well over $100M in operating profits." De Luca did throw Google a bone by saying that he believes Google TV will have a chance sometime in the future, but it would be a "grandchild of Google TV" that would do it. Logitech clearly has no plans to help make that happen, opting instead to sit "on the bench" (as De Luca had put it in an earlier call) until Google can find success. To achieve that, Google will need to do something soon to revitalize Google TV, which is not expected to see much in the way of future Flash support and may not figure heavily in Sony's future television plans either. The 3.1 update may have added app support, but it's going to take a bit more than that to make companies like Logitech take a second look.
Source
I hate to say it, but Google completely fucked themselves over by not getting content deals. Had they grabbed deals with NBC and CBS or ABC, it would have turned out better. Instead, they gambled on using web versions, which were crippled on release. Right now it's a giant useless brick capable of nothing, that's slowly trying to regain traction in the market, but it's not going too well. If even one of those networks signed on, it would have at least been a good concept.
connect television to computer ~technology obsolete~
I personally stopped watching TV years ago.
anyone remember webtv?
Whats a televisions?
Whats a televisions?
I'm not sure but I think the computer has something similar on it.
I'm actually somewhat surprised at how many people here have stopped watching TV. I don't blame them.
I only watch TV here and there, of course I need it if I want to play something on 360 or PS1
I haven't watched actual TV for years, man. We're not even hooked up for basic cable.
The reason I didn't buy one and I am sure there are hundreds of thousands of others like myself is a lack of DVR inside the Revue. If the review was an all in one solution, the only box I needed for my cable but also Google TV applications and browsing? Fuck yeah I'd buy it.
Just wait till Apple launch it's Apple Smart TV. THEN EVERYONE will start following them
Just wait till Apple launch it's Apple Smart TV. THEN EVERYONE will start following them
And Google will relaunch Google TV and it will be vastly superior :v:
I only watch TV here and there, of course I need it if I want to play something on 360 or PS1
You could get a monitor with HDMI input. Problem solved.
And Google will relaunch Google TV and it will be vastly superior :v:
It will actualy be no different to current GoogleTV. but for some reason as soon as Apple do something, people become interested in it.
They better do it fast before someone patents this idea
And Google will relaunch Google TV and it will be vastly superior :v:
And people will accuse Google of copying :smith:
You could get a monitor with HDMI input. Problem solved.
I could but my DVD player is stuffed so I use my 360. Also I'll play a game of FIFA 10 with my dad here and there, besides I only use my 360 when I'm not on my PC.
Although a few times recently I watched some Adult Swim, and I actually like it, but damn with school I don't know if I wanna stay up late, and I just don't care for DVR's or whatever.
Sometimes I get contracts from Logitech here to install their equipment. Also, since my job, I am required to know about cable stuffs, I removed the TV filter so I can get free cable.
