:whoptc:
TUCSON - Warnings are out in parts of Arizona warning alerting you of possible danger. The Bureau of Land Management is putting up signs, along Interstate 8 between Gila Bend and Stanfield. Kathy Pedrick from the Bureau of Land Management says the signs went up because of recent incidents along the border south of I-8. She says, "there was a Pinal County Sheriff's deputy shot at, there's been some homicides recently with some of the smugglers." The signs warn the public they could encounter smugglers or individuals who may be armed. Gilbert Meehl believes the signs are a good idea especially for those who aren't familiar with the area. He says, "those who pull off the road from another state to take their picture with a cactus and they travel down one of these roads, there's no telling what they can run into." The signs also warn people to stay away from trash, clothing, backpacks and abandoned vehicles. Officials say the reason the area has become such a hot bed of activity because it's close to the interstate, and smugglers can get drugs and people into vehicles and then quickly head off to Phoenix or San Diego. The signs also warn people not to confront anyone looking suspicious and to call 911 instead.
Better picture of the sign I got by email: Sources: http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_central_southern_az/other/mexican-drug-cartels-now-control-parts-of-arizona http://www.kvoa.com/news/bureau-of-land-management-warns-motorists-who-travel-along-i-8/ http://www.kpho.com/news/23900104/detail.html Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05PjLi7-i9w&feature=player_embedded Translation of the sign: "We can't protect our own border so we're slowly surrendering our land."
Lol.
Sensationalist thread title much? How is warning people that drug smugglers are afoot "ceding southern Arizona to them"?
¡Reconquista! :ese:
Sensationalist thread title much? How is warning people that drug smugglers are afoot "ceding southern Arizona to them"?
Added some more sources for you to read. There are also parts of this land off-limits to Americans. They're basically saying "you pay for Arizona but you can't use it"
Added some more sources for you to read. There are also parts of this land off-limits to Americans. They're basically saying "you pay for Arizona but you can't use it"
I see nothing in those sources about land off-limits to Americans.
I see nothing in those sources about land off-limits to Americans.
Found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05PjLi7-i9w&feature=player_embedded It's fox news but just listen to what the sheriff has to say.
Recent news items further falsely stated that the closure extends from the border 80 miles to the north. This distance is far from accurate. On October 6, 2006, roughly 3,500 acres, or 3%, of the refuge, was closed to public access due to human safety concerns. At that time there was a marked increase in violence along the border due to human and drug trafficking. The closed area extends north from the international border roughly ¾ of a mile. A notice of the closure, including a map has been on the refuge website since 2006.
They're restricting us from our land. Plus, they're trying to keep us north of these signs which are ~75 miles north of the border.
You're right - they didn't close a whole lot - but they're trying to keep people away from where these signs are placed, which are ~75 miles north of the border.
They're telling them to be vigilant, since it's an area of high drug smuggling activity.
we need fucking national guard on our border, thats what we fucking need. [editline]05:35AM[/editline] fuck
They're telling them to be vigilant, since it's an area of high drug smuggling activity.
Yes, I know that, but another thing I wanted to get across was that we can't even secure our own border. They will sign in an immigration law that everyone hates but they won't do jack shit when it comes to stopping these smugglers. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=blm+danger+public+warning+travel+not+recommended More people are against it than you think.
I wonder what would happen if the US and Mexico teamed up and destroyed the headquarters of every drug cartel and got the police to arrest everybody associated with them, even loosely, all at once. How would the cartels and gangs react? [editline]01:43AM[/editline] I'd expect violence.

It would also cause the price of drugs to go up causing even more violence in the future. I know a great way to shut down the drug cartels guess what it is guys

I'd gather a group of folks and just roll through the area shooting anyone I see.
we need fucking national guard on our border, thats what we fucking need. [editline]05:35AM[/editline] fuck
No put the Marines on the border. None shall pass.
Sensationalist thread title much? How is warning people that drug smugglers are afoot "ceding southern Arizona to them"?
It's a way of saying "Sorry, we're no longer able to insure the safety of our citizens on their own soil in this particular area, so you should avoid it completely." Which part of that doesn't sound like a victory for the other side?

It would never happen and is a stupid as fuck idea, but it would stop ALOT of violence. PLUS. Even if you eradicated all of the drug cartels, more would still pop up.
Mexico has a excellent plan. They are taking over the USA slowly and filling it with loyal Mexicans. Once they are ready, they will strike and one after the other they will take over every country on earth. :ohdear:

It is simply Impossible to provide full security over that length of desert, with anything short of a small army. ( Or by my calculations, approx. the full strength of the 75th Army Ranger Regiment )
Just send in a small contingent of armored cavalry. They respond with force, blast them to hell. PS Yes, I know the article title is sensationalist.
It doesn't say to avoid it completely, it says to be vigilant. God, you people are illiterate.
There's a difference between illiteracy and reading comprehension skills; neither of which are a factor here. Of course it doesn't actually say you should avoid the area completely, but everyday drivers aren't exactly going to feel comfortable when they're driving by signs like that. Would make the situation feel more like a war zone or no man's land, which is an odd thing to experience in a 1st world country.
