I've recently started listening to a lot of what I can only describe as Indie music... stuff like Of Montreal, Young Love, Late of the Pier, The Flaming lips.
Anyone have any suggestions that you think I'd like?
Indie? Okay.

Uh, a lot of those bands aren't indie.
Independent music, subculture music that is independent of major producers; music of any genre can be labeled "indie", but especially indie pop or indie rock
Röyksopp what the fuck
Indie music is fucking awesome. As Kazumi said, they're independent of major producers. But I usually find artists and bands in the Indie genre to make very interesting and experimental music, they usually have this little unique thing over them, it's hard to explain. Sadly this might also be why indie band never become the next big thing.
And not to sound smug or anything, but I appreciate different music styles, which indie is full of, and I really dislike people who just trashes a band because it doesn't sound like "Your popular "rock" band
103".

o lol indie means i get to act smug when you don't know what it is
I like how the term indie has lost its meaning.

The point was that indie is a bullshit genre, just like emo. It lost whatever meaning it originally had.
Only thing you left out is The Decemberists.
The Decemberists is shit no matter what genre you file it under.

Boxer is the best. Alligator is very good, too.
Thanks to all you guys, now I have fuck ton of music to listen to lol.
Oh and if I used indie wrong, sorry. I don't really know what else to classify them other than maybe alternative, but then they're thrown in the mix with like everything not rock, hip hop or country.
