An Edmonton man says he plans to fight a traffic ticket he was given for sticking a crude political message in the rear window of his car.
Rob Wells says he posted the hand-made, pink "F--k Harper" sign a week ago to voice his contempt for Stephen Harper's Conservative government in the upcoming federal election.
Doesn't Canada have free speech? I'd fight this if I were him.

He is.
Also:
When he refused to take down the sign, the officer handed him a $543 fine under the section of the Highway Traffic Act that prevents distracting other drivers.
So why aren't we going after billboard advertising companies too? They're trying to distract you by getting you to look at the ads placed.

What a feeble bullshit charge this is.
- sNip -
It's clear that cop was butthurt because he was pro harper.
but seriously.
Fuck harper. That sack of shit need to get the hell out of office.
Can somebody with a better understanding of Canadian politics than I tell me which is a more sensible party to vote for? NDP or Liberals? I took a survey that ranked which party is most inline with my beliefs and they basically tied for first place.
Needless to say, Conservatives ranked last with like a 10% match score or something like that, so fuck Harper.

NDP is where I'm voting as I find they have the best intentions towards the people.
The conservatives have placed their campaign signs down the street
holy fuck bois there no election yet
Rest in peace free speech, they'll apply any law to take your rights away from you one by one, be careful, very very careful.

NDP.
Trudeau is a better candidate than harper but not Muclair.
Muclair, although slightly idiotic in the 15$ minimum wage, has himself and his party which seems to actually be legitimate and won't play Corporate patsies. And his party is the best bet to deal with TPP.
Makes you wonder if a "Fuck Mulcair, he's a criminal" sign would get the same treatment in Alberta.

In Ontario I think this'd be illegal because it blocks the back window, but I'm not positive. We have some incredibly stupid laws about what you can and can't do to your car.

$15 is too much. $10 would be a better proposal.
$15 is too much. $10 would be a better proposal.
It's already $11.25 in Ontario.
$15 isn't unrealistic as long as it's gradual, but if they were elected and just upped the mandatory minimum wage to $15 instantly we'd have some problems.

Yeah, basically all of the cashiers would probably get replaced by electronic kiosk ones.

because a giant sign that says "FUCK HARPER" is annoying and sticks out, most of us are accustomed to ignore advertising.
regardless of free speech laws, in a lot of places swearing in public can also get you done for a breach of the peace
was it Fuck or F**k

Just like how people can be accustomed to ignore political bullshit?
Just because we usually ignore it doesn't make it right.

[editline]19th August 2015[/editline]
or decals on the vehicles body
[editline]19th August 2015[/editline]
or decorated mudflaps

it's a flat $11.00 for ontario
and isn't upping the minimum wage bound to cause inflation of prices for a lot of products?

You're right. I'd remembered hearing they were raising it again, turns out that's Oct. 1.

1 - You're in Alberta, which is essentially conservative central.
2 - Harper is currently in parliment. When he's not being bros with the states and sucking Israel's cock he's reminding us that we don't have any rights.

Mulcair's proposed 15 dollar minimum wage is for government employees, not a minimum wage across the board.
Mulcair's proposed 15 dollar minimum wage is for government employees, not a minimum wage across the board.
That's funny, because gov't employees are the ones who least need the bump in pay. Even if they were making the minimum, the benefit packages, pension, and union support most of these people get places their earnings well above minimum wage.
Let's start by downsizing the redundant Canada Post before raising all of their wages.
This all said, I think minimum wage needs to go up at least $1 across the board. I don't feel it has kept up with inflation at all.
It feels like Harper is the only one who can save this country from the coming recession. I don't even like the guy either, but the other options seem like suicide.

Too bad Flaherty's dead.

Well, it was until the last provincial election. Curious to see how the federal one is going to pan out since the Alberta NDP won a majority government very recently.
Ironically, I live in Edmonton and saw a couple posts on Facebook about this very same sign. Apparently the guy liked to park it in very obvious places and busy streets.

Sorry, I actually got that wrong when I read Federal, it actually means this:
The NDP plan would start the minimum wage at $12-an-hour, which would gradually rise to $15 by 2019. This would only apply to federally-regulated industries — which includes modes of transport such as railways and ferries, phone services, broadcasting, banks and mining.
