Two teenage girls in a relationship were found with gunshot wounds to the head in a south Texas park, with one of them dying from her injuries, media reports say. Police were searching for the gunman.
Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and Mary Christine Chapa, 18, were found in knee-deep grass in a park in Portland by a couple early Saturday, the Corpus Christi Caller Times said, citing Portland Police Chief Randy Wright.
Olgin, of Flour Bluff, died; Chapa, of Sinton, was rushed to a hospital where she had surgery and was in serious but stable condition on Sunday.
Friends told local NBC affiliate, kristv.com, that the girls were a couple and had been together five months.
It's not clear if the girls' sexuality played any role in the shootings. Wright told the newspaper on Saturday that police had no motive.
"This particular case, it does have some of the earmarks of a targeted attack," he told kristv.com on Sunday. "We'll know more about that as we go forward in the investigation."
No arrests had been made as of Monday, kristv.com reported. Three calls placed to Wright by msnbc.com on Monday seeking further information were not immediately returned.
Bullet casings were found next to the women, though police said they didn't find a gun. A resident living nearby reported hearing two loud bangs Friday before midnight but believed they were from firecrackers, according to the newspaper.
Investigators think the girls walked with the assailant or assailants down a trail into the grass. But the "tall grass didn’t allow any identifiable footprints,” Wright told the newspaper.
Friends of the girls gathered at a local high school on Sunday. Olgin's roommate, Samantha Garrett, told kristv.com that the fun-loving couple hadn’t gotten any negative response to their relationship and could not think of why anyone would want to harm them.
Wright told kristv.com that extra patrols were being added to area parks. Portland is just north of Corpus Christi, on the Gulf of Mexico.

Wow, sad story.
Wait, did they both survive, or is one of them dead?
I want to make a head joke, but I'm too nice.
That won't stop the boxes though.
Wait, did they both survive, or is one of them dead?
It says it right there, one died and the other is in "serious but stable condition".
Of course, since she was shot in the head, I don't have high hopes.

Stop being a dumbass
This is heartbreaking.
Stereotyping.
Yep, they seem to be really reinforcing the stereotype down there.
Anyone want to bet this was done by a raging homophobe?
Anyone want to bet this was done by a raging homophobe?
Pretty much everyone is thinking that.
This disgusts me.
Honestly living in this state makes me scared to come out.
As soon as school is done, California or bust!
I'm really wondering, would the couple being lesbians have anything to do with the shooting, or is the media just mentioning they're lesbians like the bike case mentioned a few weeks ago?

There are tons of incredibly liberal parts of Texas. Dallas, Corpus, San Antonio, Austin especially.
Who does that?
This is disgusting, typical southern states, filled to the brim with unsavory and ignorant characters

No, in 1st world countries where the living standards are similar, better, and worse.
Here's betting that both girls were annoying bitches.
Here's betting two people loved each other, and some simple minded jerk shot them because of it.
This is disgusting, typical southern states, filled to the brim with unsavory and ignorant characters
Actually i would say half of the southern states are tolerant. And like that guy said, it happens in other places too.
Living in Texas, so far everyone I've seen is really tolerant about being gay n' stuff. I don't know where people get the stereotype that we're all megachristian zealots that are homophobes.

The difference between the rural and urban parts of Texas are like night and day
It's funny, dateline or 60 minutes or one of those other shows like that, did a study where they had actors in a couple different areas of the US doing shit. In one episode I saw, a Lesbian couple, actors actually, but they were both Gay, were showing a little PDA, started being hassled by a Waiter telling them to leave and shit, saying how disgusted he was of their Orientation. I think they did it in California, Texas, and New York. Everyone in the Restaurants ignored the situation, except in Texas(honestly, it might have been Georgia, or somewhere else in the south. I can't remember for sure.) A bunch of people told the waiter to fuck off, and some dude wrote them an encouraging letter of some sort. Ect. ect.
The show was called "What would you do?" or something.
TLDR: Stereotypes n junk
If it does relate to their orientation that's fucking disgusting, if it doesn't it's still disgusting.
ignorant bastards. i hope they catch them.
This is disgusting, typical southern states, filled to the brim with unsavory and ignorant characters
yes, ignorance is totally isolated to Texas and southern America, that's why homophobia totally isn't a problem anywhere else!
