I found a Makarov PM for 65 bucks. Full metal, CO2, blowback and fires at 350ish FPS. Only problem is, it fires those metal .177 BBs. Are there .177 PLASTIC bbs? Would metal BBs at 350 fps be safe?
No, and No. And you arent alone, I REALLY wish someone would make an airsoft Makarov :(
Agree.
Already getting one, it fires the 4.5mm plastic bbs. Hell yeah. Only use it for outdoor matches though
4.5 plastic bbs? those exist?
Already getting one, it fires the 4.5mm plastic bbs. Hell yeah. Only use it for outdoor matches though
4.5mm = .177 = air pistol/rifle != airsoft. I've never seen anywhere that sells plastic .177 bb's. Care to show me where I can get some?
There are .177 bb's? I thought those were pellets? You know that cone shaped ones?
There are .177 bb's? I thought those were pellets? You know that cone shaped ones?
Yeah, but you can get bb's (marked as 4.5mm) as well, usually used in some air pistols.
Isn't the issue where they shoot at higher fps as they were not made to be used in airsoft?
Isn't the issue where they shoot at higher fps as they were not made to be used in airsoft?
Well, the baikal makarov (baikal is Izmash's air weapon department) will fire gamo lead balls at 330fps (referenced here). BUT - The weight of a gamo lead ball is 8.2g (referenced here), so, using the calculator here - Standard .2g bb @ 328fps = 0.99joule / 0.73ft/lb 8.2g bb @ 328fps = 40.76joule / 29.96ft/lb That's equivalent to a .43g bb (heaviest weight commonly available sniper round) at a whopping 1432fps! In comparison, a .2g bb would have to be travelling 2100fps to acheive that kind of force on impact. Basically, to sum it up - way too unsafe for airsoft.
Tl;dr mich is gets a dumb rating?
I have the UMAREX MAKAROV, I put 6mm bb's in it, fires, tests at field, comes in at around 330FPS. The plastic actually dampens the power, labeled at 380fps. Got this info from a Red-alliance thread which is one of the biggest russian airsoft forums. Same with the baikal, some ultra airsofters bought it and it fires the 6mm at dampened velocity also. And bluesaint, if your gonna bitch at me then fine, but learn how to fucking spell. EDIT: oh and fragmatic, HK airsoft sites sell the plastic 4.5, but they are expensive.
oh. A 6mm version. Cool. My humble apollogies.
No its cool. I usually don't blow up like that, and I apologize. It was a "Make sure the freshman cadets get their shit together" day at my military school. So I was pretty mad when I responded. No hard feelings buddy
Where can you find a 6mm version? All I can find are the .177 BB versions.
Just buy the Umarex model, I put 6mm bb's in it like any other GBB and they fired, firing in rapid succesion is very inacurrate however. I even played with it at a game last weekend

It's about 1.5mm too small. What the christ?
Fits in mine.
Fits in mine.
Pics? Not to call you out or anything, its just that Im 110% positive that 6mm BBs dont fit into .177 caliber BB guns. I have a bunch of different ones, including a pistol.
Yeah, I understand, Ill get the pics for you.
Waiting on those pics. I might just buy it so I can practice pistol shooting with it.
Camera broken, give me a couple days gettin new one for christmas.
