Other news from Annecy
New series will be 10 episodes that will close out the series.
Will be able to be darker and more adult(blood).
Set 50 years in the future but Jack hasn't aged for some reason.
He's lost his katana but is on a quest to find it and has a motorcycle, armour and pistol till then

I hope that not having his sword doesn't inhibit the chance of melee combat. There were plenty of moments where he didn't even use his sword and was explicitly trained in hand-to-hand of various kinds.
Just 10 episodes really?
Just 10 episodes really?
Genndy always wanted a movie to close out the series but since that never took off he's getting the mini-series to finish it off and is treating it like a 5 hour long movie.
Its better than getting another 10 episodes that have 0 finality and the show doesn't get renewed. Plus if it does you've got 50 years of wiggle room to insert new episodes into.
Should I try and go watch all of Samurai Jack before this comes out? I hear it's pretty great.

Worth it anyway, it's a great series.

Definitely. It's probably the best thing Genndy has ever done and despite being a "kids show" it has so much artistic quality as well as some great writing.
That art style looks lovely. It'll be refereshing after 5 years or so of uninspired single-line-width CalArts cartoons.

Watch it closer to when the new series comes out, unless you want to know the suffering everyone else who likes the show has gone through
Is Jack covered in blood?
That's new.
50 years in the future?
Ohh man he's gonna have a rematch with the time portal guy and WIN

Seeing how probably 95% of the fanbase for samurai jack is over 20, I think it's save to say Jack won't be fighting robots "spewing oil"
To give you an idea of how good Samurai Jack is for those that didn't watch it as a kid, here is one of the best animated fight scenes I have seen.

I kinda hope it still happens. Jack finishes a battle covered in black and red.

"Samurai Jack: 10 episodes conceived as a five-hour film. More dark. More adult. It will close the story."
perfect

It wasn't just the fights, other episodes such as the one where Aku starts to take over his body, him using sound to defeat the archers, learning to jump good, and that noir episode of the emotional robot were all amazing.
Jack was just all around great. Hopefully this new mini-series has the same quality that Samurai Jack came to be known for.
Kind of disappointing that this will be the closing season to it all, I was hoping to get at least a couple of seasons from this.
Still hyped though, can't wait.

Samurai Jack is surprisingly depressing after watching it again
[sp]The girl that survived was going to kill Jack to free her enslaved people[/sp]
really hoping Jack won't be all mid-90's edgelord with the motorcycle and the gun but i have faith in Genndy
I came

That episode is such a goldmine of storytelling. Earlier in the episode, the girl bounty hunter is practicing/warming up to face Jack by striking the water drops from that icicle, much to the other bounty hunters' awe. Then in the final showdown, the dripping water is referenced again when it's revealed that Jack was able to dispatch all of his assailants before a single drop fell. Couple that with the rest of the episode that shows how much planning went into the assassination attempt, and it hits hard.
[editline]edit[/editline]
The rest of the series has that overall feeling of morose futility, as well. No matter what Jack does, no matter how far he gets, his goal always slipped his grasp. It hurts in the bounty hunters episode because that's when we realized that it was like that for a lot of other people in that world, too.

You should see the IDW comic. It's considered to be the next season of Samurai Jack where the last TV episode left off. Nothing is lost in transit from TV-to-comic, it's THAT GOOD.
SPOILERS FOR THE FINAL ISSUE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL 24 ISSUES: [sp]You see that future Jack in the portal? That happens in the final issue with Jack having his own resistance group of everyone he's met in the TV series. The final issue ends with Jack and all of the resisitance members going out on an all-out strike on Aku's Fortress. How it ends is for apparently the reboot, or up to the readers, to decide.[/sp]
I wonder if they'll remake the comics or go on for a different thing- I don't know how much the original creator impacted the Samurai Jack comics, but either way I'm sure it'll be satisfying as hell.
I am so erect and ready. GIVE ME JACK PLEAAAAASE

This is hands down the best episode in the entire series, just posting the fight scene kinda ruins the tension they build up over the course of the episode.
[sp]This is also the first and only episode where Jack actually kills humans.[/sp]
Samurai Jack was full of such great characters, This is one of the most notable (and the greatest) off the top of my head

God Samurai Jack had so many awesomely colourful characters, I really hope being more adult doesn't change that.
The fact that none of you posted the intro is disgusting and abhorrent and im ashamed of you and you're no longer in the will.

That they went for the original style already is a godsend.
