Even though Bungie and Microsoft are parting ways post-"Reach," finding a way to turn Halo into a success outside of games is something Microsoft wants to see happen, whether it means working with a studio or bringing it to HBO as a TV series. "There will be a Halo movie. We don't need a movie. But we'd like a movie," Halo franchise development director Frank O'Connor told Harold Goldberg of the New York Videogame Critics Circle. "We'd like the moms of gamers to see the movies because they would love our characters. Maybe we’ll even fund it ourselves." O'Connor explained that Microsoft is keeping their options open, too. "We'd love to see Halo as a television series," he said. "Look what HBO did with Band of Brothers or even Rome. Something like that would work because the Halo universe is so vast." O'Connor was reportedly approached by a high-level network executive the Future of Television East conference in New York last week, and though the exec agreed to bring large amounts of money to the table, he wouldn't be the first to try securing the rights to Master Chief. In the post-Bungie era, there's going to be a lot of pressure on MS to make sure they do right by Halo, whatever happens. Either a film or a "Sopranos"-sized TV series would be fine by me as long as they make it look good, but I'm sure I'm not alone in wondering where that exec was from.
I'm not a huge fan of the games (Bungie's been going downhill since Marathon 2), but I would actually like to see a Halo movie or miniseries.
It'd probably be decent, but the halo series honestly bores me, and the movie would just be generic space marine fodder that would do insanely well at the box office due to its baying fanboys.
Dont like the idea of a mini-series, but a movie would be nice. As long as Johnson is featured.
id like a christmas special [editline]23rd November 2010[/editline] at least
Movie would be pretty cool
The games are meh but if it's anything like they make the live-action trailers it'd be worth watching, if not just for the battle scenes.
In the hands of Blomkamp, anything they churn out is sure to be top-notch.
Depending on how it is done and what aspect they cover it could work out nicely. I mean I'm not a fan of movies based on video games but I did like their live action trailers/advertisements.
If it's anything like the shorts, it has my money.

It may be generic, but a lot of love and care has gone into creating the Halo universe, and to me the characters are actually memorable. I think that the Halo series is a well crafted piece of fiction, and personally I think that it surpasses the Half Life series in depth and interest. A lot of people just jump on the bandwagon saying that Halo is terrible, and I think that the same people are jumping on the bandwagon saying that games like HL2 are amazing in depth and story. There's a story, and more information behind everything if you know the right places to look, and I'd see this movie if it came out

What? I honestly want someone to tell me that HL2 was so ground breaking in story. Really I can't see it. It was a great game, yeah the story was compelling but everyone here overrates it. And everyone here jumps on the bandwagon for hating Halo. Oh and up to HL2 and excluding HL 1, the stories were just as generic as Halo
Rather have a TV series in the Halo universe, instead of a movie
I'm not a huge fan of the games (Bungie's been going downhill since Marathon 2), but I would actually like to see a Halo movie or miniseries.
I actually really liked marathon infinity :( Come to think of it, I liked pretty much the entire halo series as well. Haven't read all the books, but I wasn't a big fan of the writing style. I'm still not expecting anything to come of this movie, especially after the mistake that was the halo anime series.
I remember seeing that in a video store I took a look at the box and just thought "lol, japan"
:frog:
He's right. Misguided aliens led by religious zealot "prophets" against human-kind is much better than 1984 with aliens. Edit: valve fanboys who fap to alyx and spend their allowance money on hats rate me disagree

It will fail unless it is written by the same people who wrote halo 2
Halo is one of the few games where a movie being made of it actually has good potential.
Im a bit excited
fuck yes.
Personally I think with games like Halo and Half-Life, the only way they could make a really outstanding movie is to make it all with CGI animations.
Im a bit excited
You shouldnt be. This has been on their to-do list for years, and the closest we have gotten is a few live action movies, and a bit of concept art. Still, hoping they will do it soon.

Oh and up to HL2 and excluding HL 1, the stories were just as generic as Halo
Firstly, that's a pretty unfair comparison considering the HL2 story-arc hasn't been completed. And secondly, where as the Half-Life 2 did have a generic storyline, it was much more compelling and the universe was much more fascinating. Where as the Halo storyline was generic and a pretty boring experience, but that's not saying I wouldn't want a Halo movie or didn't enjoy the games.
I liked both the halo and half-life story. halo had a great sense of wonder and descovery in it and half-life had great realistic events
I Band of Brothers-style miniseries would be pretty awesome.
Sounds like a movie only extreme fanboys will like. I mean, most videogame based movies end up sucking. Look at Doom and Prince of Persia for example.
I dunno, it could be really bad. I love Halo and all but some of the story seems hard to translate to a movie, without being extremely linear/cheesy/boring. I'm trying to think of video games similar to Halo that translated into good movies..but nothing is coming to mind. I'm sure in the hands of the right people, it could be a good movie, but when is that ever the case? The books for the Halo series are very well done, if they can get some of the minds of the novels into the production of the movie, it could be very satisfactory. Nothing groundbreaking, but a solid movie for fans of the series. But so much gets lost in the translation from book to movie.
