Evening musicians of FP! I'm getting a synth for my birthday, and I'm looking to get a Novation X-Station 49, but these seem to be pretty hard to get. What synths does FP recommend as an alternative? Are microKORGs any good? My friend says they're poo :aaaaa: Thanks guys
things you should be looking for in a synth is the following what type of synthesis does it do, I.e wavetable, subtractive, additive, FM, granular how many oscilators it has (in FM based synths these are called controllers) what type of waveforms does it have (or wavetables as they are called in wavetable synths, FM synths only have sine wave controllers) the filter types I.e LP 24/12db HP, BP, notch what you can route the lfos to What types of effects are avaliable if the synth is multi tiberal or not loads of other factors that come into synths but I think I got the basics [editline]09:50PM[/editline] microkorgs are pretty piss but I suppose they are good if you are starting out at the whole synth game
oh fuck how could I forget the ammount of voices it can handle at any one time [editline]12:04AM[/editline] or the polyphony whatever ya wanna call it
Yeah apparently the Korg only has a 4 note polyphony, which seems a bit shit to me
plus it only has 2 oscilators which is pretty bleh
What do you have Re-Con? Or what would you recommend?
Access virus if you can find a cheap second hand one.
indeed viruses are the dogs bollocks when it comes to synths they are pretty damn expensive though. I plan on buying a desktop ti by summer next year currently the only hardware synth I have is a waldorf blofeld, it's good but I really hate the fact there is no room to save your own presets, though that aint that bad, some of the default presets on it I'll never use anway
I'm so confused :psyduck:
Microkorgs are super rad, but I've heard the Alesis Micron is great too, but I haven't tried one first hand.
That Micron looks hella sweet
