The creators of Overwatch are facing a new controversy, this time over a butt. Blizzard said today it will remove a victory pose from its upcoming shooter Overwatch after receiving feedback from a player who criticized the pose as overly sexualized and unbefitting the character's personality. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan confirmed the removal on the game's forums, saying the developer will "continue to try to do better."
Lot of controversy around Overwatch with that magazine and now this.

I'm sure people will be upset anyway, but
"What about this pose has anything to do with the character you're building in [Tracer]?" Fipps said. "It's not fun, its not silly, it has nothing to do with being a fast elite killer. It just reduces [Tracer] to another bland female sex symbol."
While being upset at any and all female sexuality in videogames is silly, I have to agree that a quirky engineering bookwork character is a lot more interesting than yet another sexy diva.
i hope this doesn't become as stupid and overblown as the r mika thing
Keyword: player It was like one person who complained But at least it seems people are making a fuss so it's being heard that bending over for SJWs is stupid
Sex sells And further, people need to learn to not be so ashamed of the female human body, god damn. It is a pose, and it is an extremely common type of pose. It doesn't tarnish the character, this is just another example of "I don't like thing"
Wasn't it just one person? calm down
Have you been living under a rock? It's been happening a lot recently
Meanwhile Widowmaker goes unnoticed.
this is pathetic for one person complaining about one character's trait, but it's even more pathetic for devs to actually listen to this skinless player and agreed with it
i hope this doesn't become as stupid and overblown as the r mika thing
Overwatch boycott and/or petition coming soon Probably already made tbh.
All female characters will now wear jorts to prevent anybody spotting butt cheeks and getting offended.
I can't believe someone got mad about asses in a game where so many characters are in body suits.
i hope this doesn't become as stupid and overblown as the r mika thing
the r mika thing is actually being turned over by capcom because while ersb forced their hand and had to censor mika's butt slap animation, the ersb can not rate downloadable content so the upcoming costumes for female characters are hilariously sexualized [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ghDUwb1.jpg[/img_thumb]

How much of a spineless doormat can you be? There's not even an ATTEMPT to defend their artist's work. Pathetic.
I can't believe someone got mad about asses in a game where so many characters are in body suits.
The criticism wasn't that characters in Overwatch shouldn't be sexualized, it was that it didn't fit Tracer's personality.
The criticism wasn't that characters in Overwatch shouldn't be sexualized, it was that it didn't fit Tracer's personality.
Who are they to deem that, leave it to the developers.
Who are they to deem that, leave it to the developers.
Well, it looks like Blizzard decided that it doesn't fit her personality.
How much of a spineless doormat can you be? There's not even an ATTEMPT to defend their artist's work. Pathetic.
Its actually kind of odd, because Blizzard has a reputation of not really listening to its customers much at all, especially considering WoW.
Who are they to deem that, leave it to the developers.
*walks up behind tracer* hey tracer *she turns around like that* THINK OF THE CHILDREN
Keyword: player It was like one person who complained But at least it seems people are making a fuss so it's being heard that bending over for SJWs is stupid
the number of people complaining isn't the issue if anything the fact that work is being censored to suit the demands of what is clearly an infinitesimally small minority is WORSE
Have you been living under a rock? It's been happening a lot recently
Well, I took his post as referring to this one incident But yeah, I know what you mean by this happening a lot. I'm really bad at putting into words what I mean and have written/deleted my post like five times now :v: Basically, from what I've seen, and I'm well aware Facepunch/the internet isn't one entity so I'm perfectly okay with people taking what I'm saying with a grain of salt, but it kind of feels like there is a lot of people who think developers should do what they like/have full control but only if they personally agree with it? I mean, I don't really have an opinion on this victory pose being removed - it doesn't really matter to me whether it stays or goes - but I'm quite interested in how other people perceive it/reply to this thread
Should replace it with this

If it was their original intention to not have this pose in the game, it wouldn't be in the game in the first place. This is very relevant.
Meanwhile Widowmaker goes unnoticed.
being sexualised pretty much fits her whole blackwidow motif tho
No the dude tried to lean it into Tracer being sexualized, "Bland Sex Symbol" was the term used, he really did try and dig into it.
The main point was that the sexualization in the pose didn't reflect Tracer's character.
I hope that's not what it seems like I was trying to convey in the OP. My main complaint is that there is no facet of tracer's silly/spunky/kind personality in the pose. It's just a generic butt shot. I don't see how that's positive for the game. If you look at DVA's laying around pose, it's got some sexual undertones as well, but it at least still preserves some of her existing characterization. On top of that it was only one person who complained. It's not exactly a thing only Facepunch is talking about, TotalBiscuit made a satire video on that post that sparked this and Reddit has a petition thread with a few thousand upvotes saying that this is stupid too. Does it affect the game and is it a significant change? Probably not. But it's becoming a trend in the gaming industry and the internet does need to get worked up about it so developers know it can't just be swept under the rug. That's why a lot of people have respect for developers like Kamiya who just says fuck you if people complain about Bayonetta being too sexy.
is there some sort of collective paranoia kool-aid I missed out on? They change a tiny, inconsequential part of their game which has zero effect on anything other than the pose itself and everybody loses their fucking minds?? who the fuck caressssssss
