Girl killed in Iranian shelling over northern Iraq
(CNN) -- A 14-year-old Iraqi girl was killed Sunday and dozens of families fled their homes to escape Iranian artillery shells in northern Iraq, according to a Kurdish Regional Security Forces spokesman.
The artillery shells rained down on villages Sunday where Kurdish rebels were thought to be operating, said Jabbar Yawer.
The artillery targeted villages in the Balakiyaki border area, about 125 km (77 miles) northeast of Irbil province.
The barrage began late Saturday and continued until Sunday morning, Yawer said. A number of farms in the villages were heavily damaged, Yawer said.
The Kurdish rebels, known as the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan, or PEJAK, are believed to be based in the region. In the past week, Iranian artillery also fired on other villages, but no casualties were reported, Yawer said.
Just one person? They act like this is major breaking news but they gotta make Iran seem like the bad guys!!
Didn't Saddam Hussein Gas the Kurds because they supported Iran during the Iraq-Iran war?
Why would Iran shell the Kurds?

It's not because they're Kurds, it's because they're rebels
But they're just targeting Kurdish villages.
Fuck this war. I supported it in the start when 9/11 had me all patriotic, and then I said we should end it when we found that gas shell stockpile. But too many good men and women have died in this. You have to draw the line somewhere.

Never said they were but with whatever happened with the nukes or whatever, the media makes them seem like the bad guys cause they killed an innocent girl.

they are bad guys, and I think the innocent girl was just a statistic. they were making them out as bad guys for shelling a bunch of rebels
This shelling on the border has been occurring for the past year. I'm surprised a western news outlet picked up on it. The Turkish military has been doing a similar action on border settlements under the pretext of fighting back against PKK rebel fighters.
Also, it's funny how CNN has it as "PEJAK", it's simply PJAK.
I'm not surprised at this piece of news at all. Do you folks have the slighest idea how many Iraqi women and children have been killed so far by American and Coalition munitions? Of course, western news outlets would only report such a thing if an enemy of the United States did it.

Most people don't want to hear their sons and daughters are killing the people we're supposed to be helping.

War is bad, people die. It's a fact of life. What I'm disgusted at here is that western news services only report the atrocities committed by enemy states and turn a blind eye to atrocities committed by western countries, unless they're too big to ignore, like the Abu Ghraib prison scandal.

That's because they're assumed to be "collateral damage"
Doesn't this happen all the time?
Doesn't this happen all the time?
CNN is only drawing attention to it because of Iran's current status. Iran has been doing this intermittently along the border, but it's not really common like the insurgency in the other parts of Iraq or American collateral damage.

Because shelling villages full of innocent people doesn't make you the bad guy...

Yeah, it's not fair. Tons of people get killed in other places but noooo, Iran kills one girl, this is an outrage! Not saying that it isn't a shame that she died though.

You expect them to do this and lower morale? When the aliies found out about Katyn they knew the Russians commited it but they said nothing.
The "it's war, people die" statement is so lame it's sad. So because they they live in a place, which turned into a complete hell(the US being one of the reason), we shouldn't care? I doubt you would say the same if people got killed every day in your neighborhood.
