I watched this video, turned off all my consumer electronics and looked up.
I immediately got a girlfriend, married her and lived my ife to the fullest,
even though just a while ago I had a bad case of social anxiety and depression,
while lying down between dirty bed clothes and having not showered for a week.
Thanks video!
[sp]None of that is true.[/sp]
KONY 2014!
But what if I use my computer to make art and follow my dreams?
What then poetry man?
it's like my grandparents wrote a poem about 'today's teenagers', christ
Sadly a lot of people are going to take this video wrong. You don't have to kick tech. aside forever. Just stop being a lifeless robot and go out. And going out just means socializing and having fun. No matter what it is.. (well, not everything)

why would you make a viral youtube video to be shared on digital social media in order to make the point that "maybe you should go outside sometimes"
oh yeh because thousands of dollars
What a pompous cock.
What I can't agree more with: Stop staring at your phone when you are eating with friends please.
at the end of the day all the people sharing this video on facebook like "wow so profound wow" are people who have normal social lives anyway. this video isn't even aimed at forum-dwelling 'gamers' anyway because most of those archetypal nerds don't care for social media anyway
the message is fucking stupid regardless. anyone who thinks that social media has made us less social is just stupid. people said the same shit about the tv when that was invented. "wow families just sit around watching tv in silence wow this has ruined society wow life was so much better in the 1930s". tvs, and now social media, give us access to information and information creates conversation. we live in a world where i can sit in the living room with my parents and sibling and we all get on with that we want to do and then we can talk about interesting things we find, all while doing this i have connectivity with tonnes of friends who are all over the world who, without social media, i definitely would have lost contact with and never have spoken to ever again
that's fucking cool
does this dumb poet think everyone used to chat on buses and trains pre 2004? like some sort of social utopia? no of course not they had their walkman or ipod in. what did people do before the sony walkman? they read the newspaper or a book or stared out of the window like people still do today. people don't talk to strangers on public transport because
a. most people aren't confident enough to do that
and
b. who the fuck wants to talk to strangers at 9am in the morning when you're groggy as shit and on your way to work or whatever
it's not the result of social media
and what did families did before social media? they read books, magazines, watched tv in silence, went to their rooms to be alone, sat on the phone to a friend
this idea that we have become less social since social media is so false if you just think about it for more than 10 seconds
I couldn't take this seriously because of the fucking rhyming.
[editline]4th May 2014[/editline]
Still I probably wouldn't take it seriously if there wasn't a rhyme though :v:
It's weird how he told me to stop watching the video right as it was ending anyway
I kinda work as a IT Technician, i kinda need to use my phone and electrical items.
well looks like im gonna be lonely forever.

no but you don't get it man, talking to people online isn't REAL socializing!! if you don't look directly into a person's eyes and see the very essence of their soul every single time you talk to them then it's not real person to person contact, and our entire world is dying because of you!!!
I've seen this video linked on facebook but haven't watched it because I kinda knew what the general point of the video would be, but also because people were linking it through shit like upworthy and elitedaily, and I don't want to give those fuckers any ad revenue for linking a youtube video with the page title: "Wow...This Video Hits The Nail On The Head!"
I agree with the message in principle. It's a huge copout just to start browsing your phone during a social gathering, and there are studies linking heavy social networking use with a poor self-image. Not to mention we're in danger of having a generation of people who grow up learning to rely on social networking rather than develop proper social skills.
But there was some stuff that just made it sound more like a rant than an inspirational thing. The "generation of idiots" line just sounded like aimless bitching - as if you were an idiot just because you used your phone in public. I didn't like the focus on talking to strangers in half the video, either - it can be nice to have a good chinwag with someone on the train, but I think it's a stretch to rely on the example of meeting the love of your life purely by chance. And often I'd rather be left alone when I'm traveling, so why not use my phone if I feel like it? It's not like I was going to be talking to anyone otherwise.
It just felt like I was being berated for using my phone on the train sometimes, with a vague "live life the real way" message tacked onto the end.
no fuck you i like playing video games

The people with normal social lives already go out any way so what the fuck was the point in aiming it at them?
Its just pretentious hipster shit.
Its just pretentious hipster shit.
i like to avoid the word hipster because often i think it is applied wrongly just to people who are interested in things one might think is pretentious because, to me, a hipster is much worse than that - its someone who specifically and purposefully looks down on people for whatever dumb reason
so for this video yeh the word hipster is totally fitting
actually, funnily enough, i live in the kind of hipstery quarter of the city and someone recently sprayed something like "put down your phone and talk to me" on a wall near my place. within a day someone had painted over some of the letters and sprayed new ones in and turned it into something like "i'm a real dick fan"
no but you don't get it man, talking to people online isn't REAL socializing!! if you don't look directly into a person's eyes and see the very essence of their soul every single time you talk to them then it's not real person to person contact, and our entire world is dying because of you!!!
The hilarious part is that without facebook there are people who I would probably have never be able to talk to again, along with people who I would never have gotten to know who are now pretty good friends, so this guy can go fuck himself, just trying to go against the grain for no reason.
I kinda get the message but I don't think we should all get rid of social media. Because to be honest, social media puts you in like the weirdest situation where you can never be alone but feel the most loneliest. You can interact with people without actually interacting with them. This video kinda romanticizes too much of what would happen if we didn't have it.
You can interact with people without actually interacting with them..
What does that even mean?
Overall the biggest problem with this aside from the heinous inaccuracies is the one-sided view of life goals and what they should be. What if you don't -want- children? What if you're a participant in an artform using computers and furthering that is your life goal? It's safe to say that -most- people are interested in finding an SO, but it's entirely possible to do that without cutting all social media and devices out of your life... and fuck right off if you think I'm going to stop using my GPS on the off chance I'll meet my future wife like that :v:
What does that even mean?
I dunno just like all the "favorite, likes" people do on Facebook and Twitter. And even replies just seem so meaningless. Even in physical interaction, we do small talk that can be akin to that. So I guess, social media is just the same shit we deal in real life but it feels so exaggerated because of all this technology we still feel lonely as fuck. It is as if we had hoped that all this social media would cure loneliness and now we're all disappointed it didn't and it's just real life loneliness in digital form.
or maybe that's just me saying that as a lonely as fuck person right now.
what a narrow minded video
i kind of agree with him in some ways, but we're not that bad. i hang out with buddies regularly, both online and offline. im sure most people have the common sense to balance both their virtual life with their real one; hell, im sure most actually combine BOTH.
yes i agree that, at social events, it's real annoying when people are constantly staring at their phones. but sometimes i just dont want to talk to anyone. sometimes i just want to listen to my music and enjoy the world by myself. is that such a crime, mr poet?
just complete shit. im not even some basement dweller god of nerds or something but i have met lots of my really good friends online in various irc channels and forums
im interested in animation and making music. i love talking about these two things, but living in a small town there is literally no one else who i know who shares my passion at all. thanks to the internet ive been able to make friends with lots of people who like the same stuff i do.
the internet may not be the best way to socialize with people you already know, but to meet new people and shit, the internet is absolutely awesome.

this video is like reddit upvote bait to the maximum
I thought this was pretty cool at first, then I did more thinking.
This to me, turns out to be fucking stupid. People like this guy think that people who spend a lot of time behind a screen/doing something indoors is wasting your life away, it's doing something you enjoy, and that's what should matter, not if you're travelling the world and taking in everything you see, not everyone is the same way. I feel these messages are just from people who need a reminder that they shouldn't be absent-minded in their own lives, like they need a poem to make them realise that they're not really paying attention to things around them.
Or at least, that's what I got from it.
Those first post :v:

It's a generic viral video made through a formula.
Has feels? Check.
Has things people agree with unconditionally? Check.
No real solution to proposed problem? Check.
Message is forgettable right after watching? Check.
There is no substance, it's just a bait video.
