12 year old boy locked in pitch black bathroom for up to 2 years found weighing 30lbs
Using words such as "torture chamber" and "prison" to describe the conditions, Washington County Sheriff's Lt. David Crouse said Tuesday it was the worst case of child abuse he's ever seen.
"I've seen the pictures. They're horrific," he said. "I've seen other horrible things, but this is one of those things I'll never forget. I wish I could unsee it."
Crouse said a 12-year-old boy was locked in a bathroom for "at a minimum … a year, possibly two," and weighed just 30 pounds when he was taken to a hospital.
The doctor who treated the boy at Dixie Regional Medical Center called it "the worst case of malnutrition he has seen," according to a Washington County Jail report.
The boy's mother, Brandy K. Jaynes, 36, of Toquerville, was charged Monday in 5th District Court with child abuse causing serious injury, a second-degree felony. Investigators say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be screened.
Washington County sheriff's deputies were called to Dixie Regional Medical Center on Sunday on a report of a malnourished child brought to the hospital by his father, who had found the boy locked in a bathroom, the report states.
"He said he found his son laying on the floor of the bathroom with a blanket," according to the report.
When investigators from the Washington County Sheriff's Office went to the house with a search warrant, they found "what appeared to be feces all over the (bathroom) floor," the report states. "The toilet bowl was full of feces to the point that you could not see any water, but the bowl was half full of feces."
A few empty cans of beans and a spoon were found in the shower, and the drain in the shower was covered with duct tape, according to the report.
"The door to the bathroom … (had) two latches on the exterior as to lock the door from the outside," the report states.
Crouse said a video camera was set up so the mother could monitor the boy on her cellphone, and a baby monitor was set up so she could give him instructions but he could not reply.
The lights were duct taped in the off position, so the boy likely sat in the dark the entire time, Crouse said. He was so weak when he was found that he wouldn't have been able to stand up and take the duct tape off on his own, he said.
"The victim's mother stated her son wanted to sleep in this bathroom. She stated she would occasionally lock her son in the bathroom for his safety when she would leave the house. She also stated she was attempting to feed her son protein drinks to get his weight up," the report states.
Doctors told investigators they expect the boy to be hospitalized for three weeks before he regains his strength.
The biggest unanswered questions for investigators Tuesday were why the abuse happened and how such a horrific case could go unreported for so long.
The boy was pulled out of school three years ago, Crouse said. His two siblings still went to school but did not tell anyone what was happening. It was not known Tuesday how much the siblings knew about what was happening. One told detectives that the last conversation with the brother was more than six months ago, Crouse said.
The two siblings are healthy and did not show signs of abuse, he said.
pretty fucked to think that you could just be some kid growing up with brothers and sisters, then next thing you know you're locked in pitch black room for years on end, without any reason outside of your mom just fucking did it just cuz.
whatever sentence she receives wont come anywhere close to what that kid went through mentally.
Take her children away and throw her in jail to think about what she's done to the kid's mind.
She has failed in every possible way as a parent.
The last two lines of the quoted section are what I find truly baffling.
The other two kids not only haven't said anything about their brother being locked up and abused, but they're also perfectly healthy and seemingly not abused at all?
I think this is the first time I've ever heard of such extreme division of abuse. Generally all the kids are abused to some degree, if any are abused at all.

There have been a few other cases like this in the past. I can't think of the names off the top of my head. Usually the kids were brought up from a very young age to normalize the abuse. "Don't tell anyone about bobby. He's a troublemaker. If anyone finds out what he's done, they'll take you all away from home."
It's tragically common for kids raised in extremely abusive situations to not realize they, or their siblings are being abused. Young minds are hardwired to be receptive to their parent's teachings. They're literally blank slates to imprint whatever fear and perversions of reality you want onto.
Holy hell, 30 lbs at 12? Jesus, that poor kid.
What the fuck kind of a monster would do that?
Get the birther away from the fucking children, put her in a looney bin.

The same kind of thing happened to Dave Pelzer. He wrote a book about it called "A Child Called It", which I've read (it's every bit as horrifying as it sounds)

The kid was 14kg? Holy shit. The poor bugger. I hope that he can make a full recovery.
That's only double my cat's weight. How skinny was he, jesus. Must have been like one of those pics of african starved children you used to see floating about.

It's really reminding me of how families with a Narcissist parent work, where they have a child(ren) that is treated horribly, but then other(s) that are their favorite that they treat normally/lavishly.
Fucking miraculous that he's still alive... Makes me sick because there are people out there who are heartbroken that they can't have children, and yet there are sick c**ts like that who go to extreme lengths of neglecting/abusing their child(ren).
Jesus christ. I'm surprised he's even alive.
That's 5 or so more pounds lighter than my cat.

I hope that's a lynx or an ocelot. A domestic cat shouldn't weigh 35lbs.
Those other two kids are fucking retarded and probably sociopaths too.
Holy shit, did the father not have any contact with his kids? Did the other two kids not tell him anything and leave him in the dark?
Christ almighty, just imagine finding one of your flesh and blood being brutalized like that by their own kin. I'd break down on the spot.
Those other two kids are fucking retarded and probably sociopaths too.
You can't apply this kind of logic to children, dude. Though they may have been "free" and healthy compared to their brother, I would be shocked if they weren't also victims of psychological abuse and torture. Just because there are no physical signs of abuse doesn't mean that they weren't living in hell and constant fear.

That’s a pretty big cat you got there..
On topic: I hope that she get’s put in isolation for a long time to think what she did to her own son..
Not only did she make him go through a mentally and phisically difficult time but she also wasted 2 years of his life..

Wouldn't be surprised if the child locked up was used as an example to keep the other kids in line.
But dammit the mother should be locked up for good in solitary confinement.
it says the boy got pulled out from school 3 years ago, that means he was 9
doesn't the US have compulsory education

They probably claimed he was going to be home schooled or something.
I haven't had an article make me feel sick like this before, the way it was described in the article painted an incredibly vivid picture.
Weighing 2.1 stone is mind boggling.
30 pounds at that age? How the fuck is he even still alive?
The two siblings are healthy and did not show signs of abuse, he said.
That's the scariest fucking part. The mother was able to raise, or, well, "not abuse" two other children, but this one had a life of fucking pain torture and misery.
Jesus fucking christ what is wrong with her, how could she have cared about and raised two children, but then treated the third one that way. How did she not see how fucking deranged that is. Or maybe she did but it didn't make any difference.
Either way, this is all kinds of fucked up.

He's a pretty fucking big maine coon. He used to weight more before being put on a diet.
This kid is gonna be severely physically and mentally impaired for the rest of his life. His parents deserve the harshest punishment the criminal justice system has to offer

I can't even imagine what that looks like and I don't want to click the article to see in case they've put any pictures because I'm sure it'd be fucking horrifying.

As far as I'm concerned torture is on par with murder so I hope she gets at least life with no chance of parole
[Editline]a [/editline]
Even if she does something to get thrown in solitary confinement she'll still have better living conditions than her child did when it was hers
What an awful person. She should be put in an isolation chamber to get a taste of what she did to this poor kid.

The only picture in the article is the mother's mugshot, don't worry. Confidentiality laws prevent publishing explicit details of minors involved in criminal cases.
