Release date: December 21st
Yeah yeah, i know, another remake of a non-english film, shut the fuck up nobody cares go watch "The Departed" and then tell me remakes of non-english films never work out. David Fincher is a fucking great director, one of my favorites, and even though this is a remake, he's a great enough talent that this film deserves to be given a chance. Also, I'll find the link to where i read this later, but they're apparently going to also be making some changes to the ending of the film as well, so don't expect the exact same film again.
For those that enjoyed the music Fincher's last film, The Social Network, you'll be happy to know that Trent Reznor, who did the music for it, will also be doing the music for this film.
WHAT IS THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO: Back in 2004, Swedish Author Stieg Larsson had three finished manuscripts to three novels, intended to be part of a larger series of crime novels, centered around a woman named Lisbeth Salander, who is a computer hacker. However, he died after only completing three of these novels, which went on to be published after his death and become best-sellers, becoming known as the Millennium trilogy. Just last year, all three were adapted and released as films, all in the same year (which is rather impressive).
For this first in the series, the basic plot is "A journalist is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing -- or dead -- for forty years by a young female hacker."
The Journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, will be played by Daniel Craig, and the role of Lisbeth Salander will be played by Rooney Mara. Also starring in the film will be Christopher Plummer.
The film is currently in post-production, with a trailer to be officially released any day now.
Here's a look at the main character:

Being a fan of Fincher's other films, I'm certainly looking forward to this, remake or not.
Rather read the book to be honest.
Wasn't interested till I heard fincher and reznor were teaming up again
Although i love david flincher, i still have doubts... but then again anything postal makes a thread about is awesome.
My question is why I'd want to watch essentially the same movie(s?) all over again.

Not to mention david fincher's a really unique director and seeing his version of the movie should be really interested. But that might just be me.
This will be a good remake, only good directors can make good remakes.
And the trailer is pretty good, can't wait to see it.
Normally I bitch about remakes of non-american movies, but that's normally because all they do is run the script through a translator, get sub-par actors, and call it their own work. This is more like an alternate version than a remake, really.
Just FYI: "The domestic trailer for the film will officially be released on Thursday, June 2nd."
I'm assuming that'll mean online as well.
Even if I never see this movie, I'll definitely get the soundtrack. Everything Trent touches turns to gold.
I don't bother with remakes of fairly recent films, there is seriously no point in them other than people being too damn lazy to read subtitles. It might not be bad, but I am just sick of these remakes of films that are only a couple of years old just because they're in another language.
The guy who is doing the screenplay for the film also did `Schindler's List` and `Gangs of New York`. But still, this could either be really good or really bad. The casting of Rooney Mara as Salander is a serious gamble with the film.
Also, I love the Led Zep cover.
Swedish version was awesome, no need to remake it.
Swedish version was awesome, no need to remake it.
the swedish version was ok, nothing spectacular. but the thing that put me off the most was that the main character was so damn ugly
i don't like ugly people and i don't enjoy looking at them
there i said it

that was a good trailer
this movie looks really promising
i love fincher
Maybe Britney Spears should take her role so that Rusty can enjoy this movie.
The original's great. I'll probably watch this.
Had no idea Fincher was directing these remakes. Now I'm interested.
I love the original films, they're some of my favourite and now I'm interested in seeing how these will turn out.

Noomi Rapace is more attractive than Rooney Mara though.

Noomi Rapace is hideous
Oh god David Fincher. Totally gonna watch this.
I need to see the originals first
Sounds good but I wouldn't be interested in basically watching the same movie again. Wanna hear the soundtrack though
I want that song so badly.

Agreed
Anyone else and I'd be going "abloo bloo hollywood remakes of perfectly good foreign films", but this one has the potential to be the superior picture. Fincher directing, Reznor doing music? Fuck yes sign me up.

eh I'm going to give the edge in attractiveness to Rooney Mara
Loved the book. Loved the previous Fincher's movies. Loved Reznor's soundtrack in The Social Network. This movie is must see.
But I'm only afraid of Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist. Craig is type of a "bad-ass", and Blomkvist is only weak swedish journalist. But in Fincher we trust.

at least rooney doesn't look like a 40 year old meth addict
this is the movie where she gets [sp]raped by her financial advisor?[/sp]
and then doesnt she [sp]to some mansion and try to figure out what happened to some girl?[/sp]
or am i thinking of a COMPLETELY different movie?
[editline]30th May 2011[/editline]
after watching the trailer im going to say yes and i should have watched it before i asked
The title had me thinking of the chick from the hitman movie.
Like her previously lifestyle.
Another amazing remake of a foreign (read Eastern European) movie was Let Me In, a remake of Let the Right One In. It was done by the guy who directed Cloverfield, and although I think the Swedish one was better, Let Me In had some great talent and dedication behind it.
