In a live television broadcast, she will sign a new charter designed to stamp out discrimination against homosexual people and promote the ‘empowerment’ of women – a key part of a new drive to boost human rights and living standards across the Commonwealth. In her first public appearance since she had hospital treatment for a stomach bug, the Queen will sign the new Commonwealth Charter and make a speech explaining her passionate commitment to it. Insiders say her decision to highlight the event is a ‘watershed’ moment – the first time she has clearly signalled her support for gay rights in her 61-year reign. The charter, dubbed a ‘21st Century Commonwealth Magna Carta’ declares: ‘We are implacably opposed to all forms of discrimination, whether rooted in gender, race, colour, creed, political belief or other grounds.’ The ‘other grounds’ is intended to refer to sexuality – but specific reference to ‘gays and lesbians’ was omitted in deference to Commonwealth countries with draconian anti-gay laws. I'd pay to watch the queen lez out with some essex girl
This is actually very good to see of the Queen, she's very quiet in what she says so this is really unexpected from her and the royal family.
God save the Queen!
This is great. I wouldn't necessarily say soon, but this issue has really been picking up and I feel like many countries could finally turn over on it in the near future.
The average daily mail reader will have an aneurysm from this news.
The average daily mail reader will have an aneurysm from this news.
National intelligence skyrockets over night. Good to hear this from the queen, didn't expect to hear anything really.
That title made me imagine the queen in some kind of boxing match. Would pay good money to see that.
That title made me imagine the queen in some kind of boxing match. Would pay good money to see that.
Queen Elizabeth II vs. Mike Tyson. My emones on the Queen.
Queen Elizabeth II vs. Mike Tyson. My emones on the Queen.
I dunno, I think I'd win that fight..
I dunno, I think I'd win that fight..
Don't think so, mate. The Queen's got a mean upper cut, how ya think she won that fight against Lennox Lewis in 2002?
Don't think so, mate. The Queen's got a mean upper cut, how ya think she won that fight against Lennox Lewis in 2002?
But on the other hand, I'm Mike Tyson.

The conservatives are now having a brain fart on seeing their idol support gays.

God save the fucking Queen. I wonder how many minds this'll change.
The average daily mail reader will have an aneurysm from this news.
Are conservatives in England generally fond of the Queen/royalties's opinions or what? Genuinely curious as an American.
Are conservatives in England generally fond of the Queen/royalties's opinions or what? Genuinely curious as an American.
Yeah
Still trying to come to grips... Just... WOW!
This is actually very good to see of the Queen, she's very quiet in what she says so this is really unexpected from her and the royal family.
They've always been quite liberal to be fair. Any statement of any kind is unexpected though.
The head of the Church of England supports gay marriage. All Christian arguments are now somewhat invalid.
Are conservatives in England generally fond of the Queen/royalties's opinions or what? Genuinely curious as an American.
Usually. But only to an extent. They'll probably put this down to "political correctness gone mad, bloody hell, you can't say anything these days can you?" and not side with her maj.
I'd pay to watch the queen lez out with some essex girl
post that in the article comments I was going to but I don't want my email linked with daily mail
I am extremely tempted to go travel the world some day and ask several people of several countries their opinion on homosexuality, ask them what's wrong with it in case they disapprove of it just to see what the populace thinks, post it somewhere and show how impossibly ancient and dated some people's morales are. And post a seperate list of patron saints who either give not a damn what the gays do in their free time or otherwise are cool with them because it literally won't hurt them (read: Can't hurt) in any way, shape, form, function or method.
The conservatives are now having a brain fart on seeing their idol support gays.
I thought the Tories were fairly evenly split about the notion of gay people getting married.
How about that Queen everybody!
I don't see what's so special about this. I don't think there's a single old queen out there that wouldn't support gay rights.
I thought the Tories were fairly evenly split about the notion of gay people getting married.
Yeah, all the mad backbench ones are against marriage equality, and all of Cameron's lot are for it.
Are conservatives in England generally fond of the Queen/royalties's opinions or what? Genuinely curious as an American.
The Conservative party was formed from the royalists during the English Civil War. Our current PM has a direct linage back to them as well.
