Time for some motherfucking Chiptunes!
What are chip tunes?
A chiptune, also known as chip music, is synthesized electronic music often produced with the sound chips of vintage computers and video game consoles, as well as with other methods such as emulation. In the early 1980s, personal computers became cheaper and more accessible than they had previously been. This led to a proliferation of out-dated personal computers and game consoles that had been abandoned by consumers as they upgraded to newer generations of these platforms. They were in low demand by consumers as a whole, and not difficult to find, making them a highly-accessible and affordable method of creating sound or art.
So in all, its all the classic Mario, Sonic and other tunes we love. But its even more, its an actual genre out there and there are are artists like Trash80, Zalza, Dubmood and even websites devoted to people who make/love chiptunes.
I know I'm not the only nerd who loves to hear that kind of music based off the video section thread about floppy drives playing music themselves.

Site dedicated to Chiptunes :v:
I know I'm the only one who loves chiptunes. Lets spread the love people!
I used to love chiptunes, I just stopped listening to them recently for whatever reason. :v:
I'll post some of the ones I like in a bit but I'm lazy now.
[editline]14th October 2011[/editline]
Making them is annoying to me though, I never could get the hang of how trackers worked, and LSDJ confused the fuck out of me.

You're welcome.
The latest 2 albums are INCREDIBLE.

Some friends of mine have started to take interest in chiptune music. Learning to make it seems to be extremely difficult. :v:
I have a prosound modded Gameboy Pocket and an LSDJ cartridge. Also, 8bc.org
Oh cool, a third thread on chiptunes.
One of my favorite chiptunes, "Baking In Eggs" by PizzaPastaTime!

Its mainly because the software is more like programming an old Western self playing piano, except remembering all the right combinations of code to get it play right.
[editline]16th October 2011[/editline]
MY Favorite would have to be Sodium Sonet Extended by Trash80.

Or that the community is far more underground than other types of music.
Tracking is fun! [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]
I have some chiptunes on my soundcloud page. Check them out! :)

I use MilkyTracker. The programs themselves are actually very easy and basic.
The problem is that you need to know some music- and sound theory to use them.

That too.
Disasterpeace combines rock and chip and it sounds sooo awesome!

The tower of heaven theme always gets stuck in my head and I fucking love it.
Most of Renard's songs cannot be sorted into any highly specific genre, due to the fact that there are no songs like his, (None that I know of at least) but the base sound is chiptune. Listen closely to the instruments after 0:19, (It's just ambience for the first 19 seconds) as it is basically distorted chiptunes. This stuff is pretty good. So far I love Dubmood and Zalza.
