Breaking news, so not much info yet. Good that they found it
Very surprising they managed to find it. I'm eager to listen to the evidence if they chose to release it.
Twist: It's actually the blackbox for MH370 :v:

An aircraft's black box only has enough battery power to ping for 30 days. This was found by the pings. Sorry, zero chance of that happening.

Same joke got made in the last thread about the updates on the search.
and the one before that
and before that....
Why put black box in quotes? That's what it's called.
I'm interested to see what happened, i hope they release the info to the public.

Probably because it's not actually black nor shaped like a box.

It appears largely intact I don't see them having trouble getting data from it.
Anyone has any idea why they put it in that box with water in it?

To stop/slow oxidization of the box
They call it a black box because you are not supposed to open it.
So let's say they do decide to share it, which I'm imaging they will due to all the victims and parties involved. How long would it take in this type of situation for the contents to be accessed and reviewed? Are we talking days, weeks, potential months? I'm not familiar with this but I'm quite intrigued.

It usually takes a week or more to access the data in the first place, as the data on a black box can only be read using special equipment. The US National Transportation Safety Board handles data retrieval for a lot of air crashes, but considering that the plane in question was an Airbus A320, it will probably be shipped to Europe.
Afterwards, they would have to review and catalog all of the information, then decide what to publish. I'd say at least a few months before the general public gets any notification.
On CNN they mentioned it could be as early as 2 days for "preliminary results".
Also depends on if there has been any damage because if there is it will take longer to retrieve data
The voice recorder's been found and recovered as well
For some reason it leads to Pope Francis, here is the correct link: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-30791524
All links should lead to Pope Francis
