If you cast your mind back, you may remember Jim Sterling’s back and forth with Digital Homicide after he did a first impressions video on their title Slaughtering Grounds. Since then, the Romine brothers – who constitute the developer team at Digital Homicide – have launched a lawsuit against Sterling (legal name James Stanton), stating that he has “falsely accused [Digital Homicide] and caused damage” to the tune of $10 million dollars. The brothers were using crowdfunding for legal fees initially, but that avenue had to be abandoned when “harassers” began “donating amounts specifically to cause charges rather than donations and charge backs to cause financial fees,” according to Kotaku. They have since decided to represent themselves. This week, Digital Homicide has taken things up a notch. According to these court documents provided by Sid Alpha who talks more about this in the video above, the brothers are also suing 100 Steam users and have subpoenaed Valve in order to get these people’s personal information. James Romine is now after $18 million dollars in this personal injury suit. What we know is that this happened after they threaten a small youtuber to take a video down about one of their supposed sockpuppet accounts filling the greenlight again with a lawsuit. Most of the people hit were users of a group dedicated to exposing sockpuppets and games by Digital Homicide along with some that made comments about how their games are shit. The case was just filed yesterday with a motion to subpeonas Valve for their information. imagine going this far to get "revenge" on the people who said your bad game was bad
Subpoening Valve? Someone is going to lose every single cent.
More like "Digital Suicide" I'd say.
James Romine is now after $18 million dollars in this personal injury suit.
I'm sorry, if you're a chef and I ask for a nice 16oz steak, and you serve literal shit on my plate and I tell you "hey, this is shit," you don't sue me - or anyone for that matter - for $18 million dollars.
talk about a law that either needs clarified or written, user reviews are solicited responses from your customers, right or wrong they should never be able to be sued for them.
These are the guys that basically spam greenlight with trash right?
These are the guys that basically spam greenlight with trash right?
They don't just spam Greenlight with trash, they're the poster child of low-effort Greenlight games.
Oh, the lunatics are still going on with this, jesus
These guys are fucking hilarious. I thought they stopped long ago, but no :v: [editline]16th September 2016[/editline]
These are the guys that basically spam greenlight with trash right?
Yeah. Basically premade games, then they tried to take action against negative reviews, like Jim Sterling's videos.
a sad lazy bunch of idiots
This is going to be fun to watch
What kind of drugs are these guys on to think this is a good idea?
Oh, man this is so sad. I didn't think they'd actually stoop this low. Don't they know how bad this looks on them??? Imagine a world where game developers sued their customers for bad reviews. This is like amy's bakery crystal meth mode.
For some reason I was thinking of the people who created Hotline Miami and such. I'm very thankful that I was proven wrong. But yeah, fuck these people. The idea of pushing out bad games and getting pissy that everyone says they're bad is dumb and greedy.
James Romine is now after $18 million dollars in this personal injury suit.
I don't think being butthurt counts as an actual physical injury.
I don't foresee this ending well for them. You don't bite the hand that feeds you, which is Valve most of all in this case.
"They have since decided to represent themselves." well this is going to go well
How is it even possible to sue 100 anonymous people
also can we just talk about their webzone for a second [t]http://i.imgur.com/C3b4t6N.png[/t]
How is it even possible to sue 100 anonymous people
They expect Steam to give them their personal details in the process. :downs:
They expect Steam to give them their personal details in the process. :downs:
Its not going to happen. That would take effort on valves part
talk about a law that either needs clarified or written, user reviews are solicited responses from your customers, right or wrong they should never be able to be sued for them.
That's why we have courts, to see if the plaintiff has any legal bearings in their argued case, which they obviously don't in this situation. They're going to be thoroughly hammered and I wouldn't be surprised to see Valve stand up for the reviewers themselves if it even gets that far. The fact that they thought this would be anything but a free fall is astonishing.
Do they really think the saying, "if you don't succeed, try, try again" will help them get through this. They're just going to bankrupt themselves at this point.
Valve should just stop doing business with them. Why is that so hard?
Who the hell do they even imagine is going to pay their 18 million dollar damage charge?
also can we just talk about their webzone for a second [t]http://i.imgur.com/C3b4t6N.png[/t]
That fucking guitar hero font :v:
Valve should just stop doing business with them. Why is that so hard?
Because that requires Valve to actually do quality control.
Care everyone, they're gonna subpoena garry for our details.
That fucking guitar hero font :v:
The site honestly looks like one of those invasive ads for flash based RPGs that don't actually exist and only serve to upload malware on your computer. Complete with the half naked girl and everything.
