So tell me, how did I do?
they don't really look like paintings...
the stars are too sharp look too much like noise (i imagine because they are)
i dunno what i can say about the rest. i guess this isn't really my thing so i have no idea what techniques you used or what techniques should be used
They don't look like paintings because they aren't paintings. Probably should have called this "Space art" but oh well.
The stars are indeed noise, but I no longer use noise. These are old ones but my favorites.
you can make decent stars with noise, but not like that. Overall they look okay. not great but not bad either.
Wouldnt it be impossible to paint in space as there is no gravity.
Aren't you a fuckin jokester
Wouldn't it be impossible to write or to breathe?

or do the soviet way and use a pencil
Great art! :D
or do the soviet way and use a pencil
That would melt/break ultra easily because of the intense heat and cold of space ;)

my point is that the answers are obvious
Heres my second newest.

it just... looks... bland. way too uniform. the planet is just noise, the stars are noise and rings are rings. where's the art?

Just because something is simple doesn't mean it's not art. It's all put together well to make a nice space scene.

no it isn't. it's a bunch of filters.
I see noise, cloud and difference cloud as well as either the spherize or a displacement. MAYBE rendering the difference cloud layer back in as a lighting effect so it appears to have depth, then some sharpening and a layer style or two.

Here I made this in literally about 7 mins, the filename just fits with the 5 minute shit rule

moral: put actual effort into your work
Maybe try some Photoshop tutorials on space scenes to get a feel for techniques and to better your work, I suggest you take a look (and read the introduction part) at this tutorial for making star fields in photoshop.

and his tutorial for making planets is great as well.

Basically you can use the techniques in the tutorials you try to learn for yourself how to put things together to make some real neat stuff.
